Thumbs down Exhaust Shop Pricing

so i searched and no bueno.....

sooo, what type of prices have you guys been paying to get your exhaust installed and by installed I mean welded (or flanged). I live in Tampa, FL and have contacted 3 shops and each of them have quoted me in the $200 range. this seems like bs, i dont understand how in the world it could be that high. it is cutting two pipes and then welding them, maybe an hour tops. now im not trying to get this for $25 and a steak dinner but still. am i crazy to try and get it in the $130 range or no?

those of you that did this yourself instead of getting it welded, how did you get under the car and have enough room to work without a lift or whatnot? I would much rather do it myself and save me $200 but im not geting under that tank with jackstand and some 2x4s holding it up.

I paid $30 to install my LS3 mufflers on my V6, like you said cut and weld.

But it was in Tijuana.

Did you ask them why so much? Maybe post in the Tampa regional section and see if anyone there can recommend a shop for you. Good luck.

My local shop guy told me he would charge me an hour ($75) and if it took less time he would discount it. I will give him the green light for my Doug thorley cat back

well I kinda played them and told him that i had someone offering 85$ to do this for me and was looking to see if he could offer better. and his reply was, "no that shop is probably using mig welding where I use tig welding". Then he showed me a pic of some aweful mig job and one good tig welding. in my head i was like wow, really? there are plenty of people who do great mig welding.....

anyways he finally gives me the price of $200, and says "This includes old exhaust disassembly/removal, all necessary flanges/hardware, welding supplies, and hanging of new flanged muffler assembly."

i dont understand how he figures that price as equal. everything is there it is a swap job, thats it.

I put my car on stands (all 4 corners) then cut with a sawzall around 2' before the mufflers. Took me about 3 hours all said and done by myself.

But to be fair, 200 bucks is not really a bad price from a shop, plus welds.

I paid $90 to have my MRT V2.0s welded on. Took the guy less than an hour.
