If I were to guess, I'd say we should look to the current Corvette for tire sizes...

The current C6 Coupe rides on:

Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar EMT

Front: 245/40ZR18 RunFlat
Rear: 285/35ZR19 RunFlat

These tires are ~$400.00 EACH from the Tirerack.com...

I'd expect something similar for the Camaro... the wheel size jives pretty well, and runflat tires would save a lot of space in the cargo area. They are also safer.

If you look at the tires under the Z06, they are even wider!

Front: 275/35ZR18 RunFlat
Rear: 325/30ZR19 RunFlat

These are also ~$400 each!

These might find themselves under the Z28 Camaro... and it will need it with 550hp!

Holy cow. That is almost 13 inches wide! That is wider than the huge tires on my truck!

The current GTOs also come with 245/45-17's of which you can find for under $200 a piece.

I would much rather have the smaller rim and smaller tire than pay $400 a tire. Granted those are runflats.... but still.

Yup. 12.8 inches wide by 26.68 inches tall... that's a BIG tire! But with 505hp and 500lbft of torque you need it!

I think the other reason these tires are $400 each is that they are the softest supercar tires you can buy. The rubber and construction technique used is not exactly cheap... not that you can buy a 'cheap' tire that's a 325 section width!

I think the BASE Camaro might come with 245 -> 275's, but the Z28 is going to HAVE to feature something much wider, otherwise you'll just make a lot of smoke! I also think GMPP will offer wider wheel/tire combos at extra $$ for those that are willing to pay.

If you are using your Camaro to commute to work, then I agree, 245's would be more economical, but if you want to get out and let loose the Dogs of War, you'll need big shoes!

CUSTOMIZATION QUESTION

Say i was going to put a 22 in the rear and a 20 in the front of my car. I wanted a 4 inch lip on my car, but when i go to order my symbolic wheels it says a 10 inch width, anyone know what the lip on that would be?

I would like to get the concept rims in a gun metal color like in the pic above. Chevy has been good lately at putting nice rims on the vehicles from the factory or you can upgrade to something bigger/better depending on what you want.

Look at this for some hard evidence...

The Concepts tires got rave reviews(along with the rest of the car), so why change anything?

"Exactly", says GM, and so they meddle with the Zeta Chassis a little to allow for 21's without turning problems...An expensive change to turn around and put 18 or 19's on if you ask me...

I've read a few things - but the concept supposedly has 22 inch wheels - and the Camaro has been designed to take up to 24 inches (front/back and with steering in mind).

Since Holden and putting 20s on their current range - I would expect the same. However, with options for larger (up to 22?). I'll take whatever I can get - but if they are small (and they'll look lost in those arches) I'll be budgeting to upgrade almost immediately. The concept is just too fine as it is not to have mine look the same

Just the thought of 20" or larger wheels has my wallet screaming for help. I am thinking 18"s or 19"s for me.

Ride height.

Hello, I am a new Camaro5.com Register, yes...a noob so please do not give me a hard time. I am seriously considering waiting and purchasing one of these new Camaros when they are released. I love the way they look in these concept pictures and photos...but...one of the main reasons they look great to me is because they are very low in these pictures..lower ride height always adds more attractive and aggressive feelings in the visual sense of the car. I am worried though because the mustang originally had pictures that looked low as well, but then it came on the market and was lifted to SUV height like it is now. Very annoying, I know muscles cars are usually not super low but I really like the way it looks in the pics where the tire is almost RIGHT under the fender, no lame fender gaps. So, anyone here know anything about the height when actually released? Would save me money from buying springs.

First, no reason to worry about abuse because you're a newbie. Everyone here is respectful, and a good group. Those that weren't didn't last long.

As for ride height; the rims on the concepts are larger than what will be offered on the production version. Consequently, on the production version, there will be more of a gap between the tire and fender. But I'm confident that it won't be that bad. I've also heard rumors that there may be the option of getting larger rims through the dealer.

Time will tell, but I'm certain we'll love what GM has done with the production version.

Welcome.
Don't be deceived because those are 22's out back and 21's in the front if i recall... some HUGE tires for a car.

Don't worry though a set of springs will be easily had and changed to give you any ride height you want for about $300 in parts.

Ok, well it sounds great anyways. Rims and lowering suspension mods are usually not to bad on the price. I really hope these cars come out great.

Wasn't there a picture online some time ago that showed the silver concept in the presence of a 4th Gen? I remember it, but don't remember where to find it.

And the 5th Gen rode quite a bit higher than the 4th.

So if you're happy with the ride height of the 5th Gen, I doubt it'll get any higher. Possibly slightly lower.

I haven't been to see this car as of yet, I SOOOO Want to, though. But I digress, a friend of mine told me that the fiberglass shell he saw was "huge", but I know he doesn't drive or have any F-bodys.
So I was wondering (and this is probably directed towards those who own 4th gens) how big is the 5th Generation compared to the 4th? in terms of anything that strikes you as important...hieght, width, lenght...overall impressions, thanks

It seems a little wider. Seems to be about the same height. Doesn't seem to be longer or shorter. I think it's tough to say unless you can put them side by side. It did appear that the 5th Gen had more room inside than the 4th Gen. Sorry...but it doesn't seem huge to me. It just seems like a new musclecar in it's own design.

Sorry I don't remember ANY picture of the concept and a 4th Gen camaro. I don't think there was one. Why.. or for that matter compare the Concept with a 4th Gen camaro? That would be the proverbial apples and oranges.

I think they will lift it a bit. The entire car is sitting to low for general motors not to be worried about people coming back with damage and wanting a fix on the warranty. I will live with lowering it myself. That is a sweet picture.

I'm confident also that it will have quite a bit of wheel gap in it. Like has already been said, the wheels on the concept are rediculously oversized, and they can afford to have it sit aggressively on them, the car is not driven per se.

But I'm excited about the little things like this...it makes it that much easier to stand out with one without doing something rediculously expensive. Throw some mild springs under her to get the ride height down to something more aggressive and it will look that much better compared to the neighbor's stocker.

Assuming it doesn't void the warranty. :P

I agree MerF, I am going to invest in larger wheels though with much smaller tire profile and lower it. Hopefully I will not have any problems.
