"Once Bitten"

Been one of those days today ... Decided to do a quick clean of the gutters this afternoon. Apparently momma Brown Widow was hiding in there. Never felt a thing till about 30 minutes later, went for a quick ride and when I shifted from 1st to 2nd the pain set in ... Within a hour my thumb started turning black. Went to the E-Room and they pumped me up with antibiotics, so secondary infections don't set in. Doesn't hurt any more, just swollen and dark color ...

Good you got attention right away, spider bites are not for home remedies. Black widows and brown recluse are quite common. Speedy recovery to you and no pain shifting.

Send a message via AIM to Mr. Wyndham
And he said unto his gutter-cleaners:

"Where thy gloves"

tsk-tsk...
I hope you heal up quick, Slingshot.

I've heard about Black Widow bites, but I've experienced a Brown Recluse bite. After two weeks of saying to myself, "it'll clear up", the back of my left leg looked like it belonged on a decomposing corpse!

OUCH!! That's why I always wear gloves when doing outside work.

Ouch. I've worked around spiders long enough that it has become second nature to wear at least "Mechanix" brand light-duty work gloves for around the house stuff. In fact, such a pair of gloves saved my right pinky from an angry honeybee. I was at work and the bee zoomed in for a crash landing right on the floor of the delivery truck. A quick brush of the gloved hand was not enough to sweep him out; instead his legs gripped right into the fabric. I attempted to shake it off to no avail - it became like slow motion, and the skin on my hand really began to crawl. All I could do was watch the phases of the bee embedding its stinger. It was better than a front-row seat during an episode of "Animal Planet". Wow!

As for the stinger, it found its mark in the thickest portion of my glove: right on the seam. No pain, no injury, and the bee died. So that's my story - gloves work to protect!

I wish you a quick recovery!
