corrosion on negitive battery cable? pic inside!

is this what this is? it looks like gray junk i tried to get some of it off but its a little stuck on there i have an amp hooked up to my battery idk if that matters or not i found it while installed some sound deadening matterial......

I can't really tell from the pic, but, it looks like there is metal missing like it was burned away by arcing?

That's what it looks like to me too. Corrosion will be soft and flaky, not stuck on as you said.

Definitely not normal, even if you were using it to jump start cars all day it should not look like that, take it in immediately, or risk a fire.
