If I'm not mistaken, this is normal. Don't get too worked up until we know for sure the Camaro's in trouble.
As of...two days ago (I think), Camaro's still on-track and doing very well. |

Let's see a link... and even if it were true, it would only be in anticipation of starting operations again for the Camaro in Feb.

This will mean a delay for camaro. It's also a good way for GM to put pressure o the Canadian govt.for funding.

Here's the only article I've seen...they didn't specify which plants are effected.

It almost sounds like the Camaro could continue unaffected as it isn't set for full production until Feb 16.
This may not affect the camaro at all. Seems to be a reasonable thought.

I just heard it on the news at noon. I also found this, it gives some hope:
Quote:
If I'm not mistaken, the Camaro should still be on track. Its production begins right when these plants are supposed to be coming back online. I hope . . .

no offense but i dont see how this wont impact the camaro. At this point I think its pretty obvious we are now going into at least a 6 week delay. Test cars still need to be built and the car tweaked and if the plant isnt operating that stuff doesnt continue to happen.

Assuming there is a delay, would this give them time to make sure certain things work perfectly (Ex. ambient lighting). Or will the Camaro go untouched and unworked on while there's a delay?

The plants are shutting down for production purposes. Test cars will be available and the Camaro will launch as planned. Everyone needs to relax. The Camaro is the one vehicle with guaranteed sales; not to mention they don't even have to rebate or red tag them to sell them.
If there is only one plant producing GM vehicles in Feb, you better believe it will be Oshawa. |

One way or the other, we need to hear from Fbodfather or 80Zedder on this.
I don't see any problem with that. Well, besides the spelling of 'Eh' . . .

Hello!
|
I'll take the news as saving money now and the Camaro will begin production at the normal time, 16 Feb 09!
It's not like the test cars aren't built...6 a day for the last few weeks I beleive? They get the bugs worked out, make corrections on 16 Feb and start up slow and then build to normal production! Now, had the article say "until further notice" instead of "first two weeks of Feb"...yeah, I would be worried! I think GM needs to launch this car...it won't save them but it will start retruning money invested years ago ASAP! They may very well lower produciton numbers too but in the end, recoup the money in R&D and make alittle extra...that's better than losing all the R&D money and getting nothing in return! |

The whole plant (there is more than one line) is not scheduled to be shut down the entire time. Every year they shut down for the holidays, and this year production is scheduled to be shut down longer in many NA plants, but Oshawa will not be completely down...My husband scheduled to return to work on Monday, Jan. 5th. Everyone needs to calm down. They are building them...Now as long as our government comes to their senses everything will be ok

Not to be disrespectful to anyone here....but...
I've been around for a while and have read hundreds (scratch that) prolly thousands of speculative posts. If there's one thing I've learned, it's to not get worked up UNLESS word comes from GM. So far, we've heard that everything has on schedule for the plant. If something comes up, GM won't want to talk about it unless it's actually going to affect the production date, etc. If and when that happens, you all know Scott will chime in with some info for us. So far, nothing has happened....which is a good thing.

Plants shut down all the time this time of year - I am 120 miles north of Detroit and this is common practice for them to do maintenace, etc...I am sure it is the same for GM/Canada.....plus with all the vacations it is more productive and cost affective for them to just shut down production lines......It is a little longer this year to their present state.....I am not worried about a shut down as this is somehting I have known for 20 years. My inlaws are Auto makers - But I am not a reliable source

Nevermind what I said earlier...it's not as normal as I thought.
![]() This doesn't mean the Camaro will be delayed, though. Start of Regular Production (SORP) wasn't scheduled until the middle of Feburary anyways... |
