3.73 Gearing ??

Hi folks. I am brand new to this forum, learned tons already. I just recently purchased a 2010 Camaro SS M6. I had a crate 427 naturally aspirated engine built for it that puts about 680 HP at engine...I think around 525-550 RWHP? ( Have to check dyno sheet to confirm ) Catback Corsa exhaust, cold air intake..

So my question ..and I know it has been beat to death is..what rear end gearing. I ordered a set of Richmond 3.73's, however upon reading numerous threads on here, everyone is going to the 4.10's

I am a casual driver ( city and hwy )and will be taking it to the track..

Are the people on here putting 4.10's int he stock cars? That I can see...but is 4.10 too much for my set uP Or am I wasting my time with the 3.73's?

Any info would be awesome...Im really torn here....

Thanks
T

I have the 3.70's and I like them - they feel alot better than the 3.45's. That's my personal opinion.

With that much power you do not need to change gears unless you plan to race it. Then it depends on what type of racing you plan to do. 373/0 would be good for all around racing. 410 would be overkill.

That is what I was thinking...4.10 would be overkill. I do need to make a change though..with the cam in that motor...it is always looking for some revs...and tends to chug and surge in lower RPM's.

Runs way too tall...dyno'd at 120 MPH in 3rd at about 6800RPM. DOnt think I could get it onto 3rd on the 1/4 mile barely...ha

My 4.10s are NOT too much gear on a stock motor. And, 4.10s would be even better on a camed motor.

However, you need to read about the Richmond 4.10 gear failures on this forum.

Yeah, the failures are also what I am a little worried about...I may run the 373 to be on the safe side and I am sure it will be a great improvement from stock 345

If you are unsure about your rear or gearing I would suggest upgrading to a 9 inch, you then can swap gears real easy. That is what I am doing.

Sounds like he want a streetcar that takes to track for fun. I think it depends what tires u will be running. With 525wHP & gears without slick u will spin a lot.

The 3.73s are only a 7% RPM change from factory 3.45s - not much.
The 4.10s are a 16% RPM change - much better.
You may want to consider the new 4.30 gears that produce a 20% change. I have not heard of anyone having breakage with the 4.30s.

Thats exactly it. I am not going to be hard core into racing it. Just take it to track to see what kind of times it will put down. Mainly street.

So I will be running the stock tires on it. The engine I have puts down alot of torque as is...just want to bring it to life somewhat with some gears and reduce the lugging and surging with the cam. Good suggestion on the 9 inch...maybe down the road...

If you can wait until this coming spring, there will be some other manufacturers coming out with gears....including 4.10's. Just be patient...Daniel-san!!!
