2.5in or 3.0in?

I have a stock LS3 right now and trying to get the exhaust but I'm no sure whether i should get the 2.5 or the 3in. I do see myself with SC in the future so perhaps I should get the 3in but in the mean time the 3in will decrease performance? IF I get the 2.5 and i got SC will that 2.5 be sufficient?

Please help, thanks

Go with the 3" now and save from having to get it later. I do NOT think you lose any HP.

I vote for 3"....if nothing else but for the sound. The 3" is going to be a much deeper tone.

I don't think you're going to loose any power at all. Unless you buy a complete system then the cat-back is probably going to have a 2.5" inlet to hook up to your factory mid-pipes anyway.

You just need to do so research because from what I've seen, most of the cat-backs that sound good with the factory headers/mid-pipes will be too loud once you go with headers. Of course everyone has their own preference so you may like the extra loud.

I would go full 3" all the way. I have seen ZERO loss on the car by doing the bigger pipes, even on stock engine cars.

And LG's full setup would be a very good choice.

3 inch without a doubt if forced induction is even a possibility. You will not suffer any negative effects in the mean time. Don't get anything crazy loud, but the time you add a supercharger and headers it will be unlivable.

Go with 3". Cant go wrong. I went with the 3" MBRP catback and its pretty darn good. Unlike the Corsa, its got a low deep sound to it. I also seriously doubt i have lost any performance with it either.

It's funny that everyone says this, but both Lingenfelter and Hennessey use a 2.5" exhaust on all their cars...I'm still waiting for proof that 2.5" gives you the same benefit as 3".

Unless you're going with big HP numbers I don't think it will matter if you go 2.5" or 3". However, the 3" usually has a much deeper tone to it.

I would think that if you like say Borla then go with their cat-back even though it's 2.5". However, if you go with say Magnaflow where you have the choice of 2.5" vs 3".... I would go with 3" for the tone if nothing else.

Alot of Mfgs don't give you the choice....it's either 2.5" or 3". I think Magnaflow and maybe SLP are the only ones where you might have a choice.

I think most people are saying 3" for sound more than performance.

Here is the Magnaflow #16483 with LTs. This is the setup I have and I love hearing it start up and then settle down into a nice deep rumble.

I just received the kooks 3 inch cat-back exhaust. I currently have kooks headers with a stock cat-back on a force induction setup. I am currently at 660 rwhp. I was told the stock exhaust had become a restriction and that the swap would lower my boost allowing me to run a smaller pulley.

Exhaust will be installed tomorrow and dynoed. I will post results. I will see if the money I spent gets me anything or not.

Here is my video. Keep in mind the really agressive CAM you hear at the beginning of the video is obviously not my Camaro. It's JDP Motorsports Chevelle. But when I start my burnout you get the idea of what the #16483 sounds like launching at around 4500RPM.

Thanks.

Oh Don's Chevelle runs like a raped ape! It's got a 383 Stroker and it's blown! I'd love to meet him out at Rocky Mountain Raceway and run a 1/4 mile against him just for ****s and giggles but yeah it's the ultimate sleeper!!

Guys running headers and the 3" system, do the cats narrow down to the 2.5" and your 3" catback hooks up to that just like to the stock cats? Obviously this is if you are running cats.

I am running cats. As I understand it, after speaking with Brandon at Maryland speed who sells all of these systems, is that the kooks 3 inch is the only system that has true 3 inch cats as well. The other cat-back systems all neck down to 2.5 to meet the factory system.

First off KOOKS isn't the ONLY one. LG is 3" all the way and Texas Speed is 3" all the way.

This is only if you buy the complete system (headers, connection pipe, cat-back). Otherwise if you buy just the KOOK headers they are going to come with a connection pipe that has a 3" inlet and 2.5" outlet so that you can connect it up to either your factory cat-back or cat-backs that can hook into your factory mid-pipes.

A lot of 3" cat-backs have a 2.5" inlet and are technically not a true 3". Magnaflow and MBRP are a couple examples of that.

Again...remember that unless you're making big power (like 600+) the 2.5" should be fine. Anything below that the 3" is really going to be more for sound than performance.
