The fuel door's going on the side of the body like a normal car. And like a normal car, it's just a circle cut into the body. However, there is an accessory fuel door available that's similar to the concept's.

I know what and where the fuel door is gonna be, but I would like to know how it's gonna open. Is it gonna be a "push in to activate the release" OR will it have a button inside the car OR will it just open with a pull.

I have not seen a button or release lever inside, nor does it look like there is any indention in the fuel door to grab, sooooo If I'm deducing that it's gonna be a "push-in" type.

Yeah I have concluded that it will be a push in then release type of cap, but I will try to confirm that.

Ok, added this pic from Dragoneye's Indy pics thread, and on pretty much every car I have seen the button for a fuel cap is next to the trunk release button.

The old Aveo had a little lever just under the seat. You can't even see it unless you're told it's there. I don't know if Camaro will be the same or not.

But there has to be a release somewhere...you would think.

I hope its a button inside and they dont put one of those cheap looking "race style" gas doors on it that look like it came from advanced auto parts. Hopefully it will be body colored and smooth. Im already thinking of shaving the door handles and all the badges to make it look cleaner. Thats all I need is a gawdy lookin gas door!!!

I noticed the fuel cap is on the "wrong" side of the car. My three current daily drivers are GM vehicles, and all have the fuel door on the driver's side. I'm not going to like having to remember the Camaro's is located on the passenger side.

Thats the problem when you inherit a "GLOBAL" design. When the Aussies stop for gas the person gets out of the car and the gas cap is right there. You would think when they made it left hand drive they would have moved the filler to the correct side of the car. What side is the vette fuel door? We all know the answer to that.

1. Fuel door is located on passenger side of car (not drivers side as shown)
2. Fuel door is located on SIDE of vehicle (not on top like shown)
3. Fuel door will be painted/color matched to vehicle to look like most normal fuel doors
4. Chrome/Stainless steel replacement fuel door (to give race inspired look) will be available from GMPP.
5. Release for fuel door will MOST LIKELY be inside vehicle by driver seat (most likely).

Not necessarily. The fuel door for current Infinitis (at least on the G35) locks when the doors are locked and then requires you to push the hinge side into the car to flip the panel open.

Hmmm... sounds like that might be hard to explain. To clarify, I don't push my fuel door in until it clicks and pops open. Instead, I push the right side of the fuel door into the car until the left side swings out. So like this, I guess:

Code:
Legend: ___ = fuel door, ^ = finger/pressure
___
  ^
  /
 /^

 |
... if that makes any sense.

That and certain government regulations prevent the fuel door on large production models from being where it was on the concept version.

Are you sure? That looks like the tab that locks the floormat in place. I thought I read that the gas cap didn't have a lock?

camaropete I bet almost anything you are correct, and that there is another one closer to the center of the car as well hehe. GM would not want you to open the fuel cap by accidentally stepping on that while entering/exiting the car anyways, so placing it there would just not be practical.

And for those who didn't look at the Victory Red SS thread, here is a picture of the passenger's side of the car and the actual fuel door.

The fuel door is not remotely opened. That means there is no control on the interior like I thought.

It works exactly as Venom described. You push it in like a button to open it.

Yep, that's the floormat anchor. My G6 driver's side floormat is exactly the same.

Great. That makes it easy for people to steal your gas. Looks like I'll be investing in a locking gas cap. Sigh.

I'll be so much happier to have this kind of release. In my current car I ALWAYS forget to pull the little tab to release the fuel door, and I have to get back in and do it after I'm already out of the car. That would be EVEN MORE of a pain if the fuel door were on the passenger side of the car, instead of the driver side. I'll probably just get a locking gas cap.
