NT05 worse than stock

I got new Foose wheels, 20x8.5 front and 20x10 rear, put NT05s 315/35/20 on the back and moved the stock backs to the front. I bought the NT05s because I installed a vortech sc a few weeks ago and wanted better traction but the NT05s seem worse than stock. I'm basing this on wheel spin, with the stock if I floored it from a stop, the wheels would spin but the car would keep straight and take off. With the NT05s the wheels spin more, it starts to go sideways and I have to let off the gas.
Any ideas? I thought the NT05s would hook great.

Are you doing the test with the same conditions? On a hill? flat? wet? dry? there can be lots of factors.

You should have got the NT05R....not the NT05

Just for clarification purposes, you installed the supercharger then checked wheel spin on stock tires then compared them to NT05's?

You just don't specify when you got your wheels relative to the SC.

Also, is TC on in both cases or off or sport mode?

I got the SC installed then about a week later the tires so I'm comparing after the SC install. I couldn't get the tires to spin at all pre SC.
This is with TC on in Sport mode in both cases.

I have read a few other people say the NT05 didn't stick well also but most seem to think they're great.

I can't believe that you don't have traction, I believe that Rick from Livernois Motorsports had the NTO5R's on a costumers car at the C5 in GA and ran in the low 10's with them. Are you doing the recommended burnouts before launching the car?

I think the problem is the fact that you are running a 315 tire on 10" wheel. The tire is probably bulging at the side wall and not allowing the tire to make a full contact patch/foot print

Thanks for the clarification.

I'm guessing A6 not M6, correct?

If it's an M6... I'm curious how you couldn't break the Pirelli's loose. Just need more RPM's :p

Damn. Good catch... I forgot 315's need at least a 10.5 rim (11 preferably).

Wasn't even paying attention.

Yes, its an A6. I've seen others run 315's on 10 rim, there is even a thread where people are putting the NT05 315 on the stock rims. Of course I have no idea how its working for them.

Well you put the NTO5's on instead of the NTO5R's...HUGE difference in tire compound. Your not going to notice a difference betweent the 305's and the 315's on those 10" rims. The contact area that is used will still be roughly the same on the 305's you just waste the edges on your 315's and have that truck like bulge... get the NTO5R's and your traction should improve. This doesn't account for the previously mentioned variables...but the tire compound itself makes a HUGE difference.

They do need to be pretty warm to hook well, but I went a 1.5 60' on stock suspension and 10.44 @ 135 mph in Midgard's car.

Our NT05's hook fine, so long as you don't dump it from a dig or gas it around a corner. But, we're running a 315 on 11 inch wheels.

That's his issue..He got the NTO5's and not the NTO5R's... Should be able to get your 60' times with the R's... or at east sub 2's..

This. Just because a tire fits on a wheel, that doesn't mean it is properly sized for the wheel. Chances are, at WOT your tire expansion is likely making your tread contact patch shrink since they are too wide for the wheels. Try the 305 wide drag radial, you won't have traction issues...unless its raining.

Try playing around with your tire pressures and let us know how things went.

Thanks everyone for your help. I'll give it a few more tries and make sure the tires are warmed up. It sounds like I need to get the NT05R but I can't dump these and spend another $600 for those so I'll make do with these for now. I also only see the NT05R for 20'' wheels in a 315.

you can get them cheaper in BC, just FYI...

Yeah, and with a SC, you should really burn out your wheels before you try that launch. Heat them up real nice. Im sure they will work fine.
