Those with TSP .231/.236 cam... In here please.

It seems like texas speed's .231/.236 cam is quite popular. I guess people are getting good results with it. To me, thats alot of cam but it seems like LS3's like em bigger.

That said, I would just like to ask those of you with this cam a few questions. To be clear, I am considering the cam on a 112 LSA (wish they offered a 113 or 114).

(1) What RPM does it start to surge? (stock gears)

(2) Where is your powerband starting? (I'm wanting to make power from about 2200 and up)

(3) Did you stick with single bolt or convert to 3 bolt cam gear?

Thanks in advance.

I'll help best I can. I ahve the 229/236 on a 112 LSA. My car starts to sugre at about 1400 RPM, with stock gears. The powerband starts about 2800 RPM. And I switched to a 3 bolt becuase the single was taking to long to ship.

Very pleased with mine. Driveability is great but I believe that comes with the tune(I chose Jennetty and love it). My cam is on a 111 and my surge is noticeable at around 1500rpm. I can tell you that the car did not lose any power from idle to around 2k but it didn't gain any either. I plan to have it on the dyno in a week or so and I will post results then. All in all, I think Texas Speed hit a home run with this grind.

I went with the 229/236. According to their dyno graphs, the 231 makes 1 more hp, gives up 2lbs. of torque and obviously has more overlap on the same LSA.
It surges around 1500 on deceleration. I didn't notice any loss in low end after installing it, the power band feels about the same with much more on top. It's definitely not overcammed.
I went with the 3 bolt. No problems after 11k miles.

Good to know. Thanks for the info.

What LSA is yours on?

A good question for surge is what rpms can you cruise through a parking lot in 1st gear? This helps people that drive in bumper/bumper traffic.

1400 and below I surged, but that's only if I am barely giving it any throttle, and trying to make it surge. During normal conditions, I never get my car to surge, accidently.

We can get you wider LSA no problem. Most cutomers get 112 LSA, but we stock both 111 & 112.

Jason 98,
What valve springs do you recommend for your 231/236 cam? You have the Comp and PAC beehives as well as various dual springs on your website and I was curious which spring you would recommend for this cam, especially with longevity in mind as well as performance.
Thanks!

We have the PRC EHT's or the standard PRC .650" kits. We use the .650" kit most of the time, but just about any of the kits are in stock!

I typically run doubles on my car so we don't have to worry about a single beehive failing & killing a motor.

Are the EHT springs a "must" for the .231/.236 or with the .650's suffice?
