Well then GM had better ditch the supercharge then. Its gonna be hard to not break 430 hp

If they're only getting 465 hp out of a 6.2L supercharged engine, they're doing something wrong.

Its likely just a coincidence. I bet that plate has been used on other test cars (Buicks, Caddies, Pontiacs, etc) before it was affixed to that particular Camaro.

I have had my 2011 for a month and a half and I am dying to mod it but I don't see a point if I will be able to put a deposit on a Z28 in 6 months. When they release the specs on the car how do you find out what date dealers will be able to take an order for build? I want to order on day 1 and then sit in agony waiting for the car to arrive

Try to find the dealer in your area that sells the most Camaros, they should have the best chance of an allocation of a Z28. Also check with Camaro Scotty and Becky D on this site, I believe they have already started taking deposits for the Z28. Good Luck.

can they legally take a deposit on a non existent, non officially announced car?

Chevy hasn't shown that they can play Ford's game yet.
Let's not forget Ford has never left the game and continues to lead it, they are not reactive, they are proactive.
On par doesn't cut it anymore, you either kill the GT500 or it's just a ho-hum grab at some customers $$$.

please explain how they continue to lead? seeing how the sales are below the camaros. . .granted not by much but still below the camaro. . .also explain how they aren't reactive. seeing how the 2010 gt and is a shame and came out after the 2010 camaro. but the 2011 gt is a clear reaction to the camaro.

camaro fanatics know that performance doesn't mean the car is leading the way. look at the 4th gens. whooped the mustang gt's rearend all the way up until recently. . .it took ford going to the 03-04 cobras (forced induction) to beat the 4th gens. and even then the regular GT was a shame. but sales showed people loved the GT more.

You're basing your assumption that the Z28 won't look "more special and unique" off of an IVER that has camo all over it.

You can't tell exactly how it looks under the camo but you can see some obvious upgrades in appearance. From what im looking at it has about as much a face lift, if not more, than the GT500 has from the other stangs. Why knock it before you see it, other than to just be a thread troll?

So far it looks like we can at least expect different exhaust, hood, and fascia and presumably rocker panels, wheels, and spoiler as well. How much else do you think they could change on the exterior? Did you think GM would be stamping out different sheet metal for it?

The Coyote 5.0 was in development long before the Camaro was on dealers lots.
Personally, I think they underestimated how well the Camaro would sell and waited a year to release it when they shouldn't have.

Ford is much more performance driven with the Mustang than GM is with the Camaro, not the Corvette but, we aren't talking about the Vette.
They have factory installed gear options, dealer installed superchargers that don't kill your warranty, performance parts that actually add hp, and they don't take over a year to figure out a simple short-shifter.

The GT500 is a monster and the Boss 302 looks to be a road course beast.

Like I said, if the Z28 doesn't decimate the GT500 then GM is still #2 in the ponycar wars.

Before it was on lots? Sure. Before it was announced for production? I doubt it. Before it was suspected for production? No chance.

Curious to see what's under the hood of the blue test mule. Does GM have the right to use the IROC-Z name?

The 4.6L that was in the Mustang has been around since the early '90's and was in a bunch of different cars and trucks, they needed an updated version for the Mustang and other platforms.........so yes they have been working on a 4.6 replacement since well before the Camaro.

Besides the ponycars there is the US truck/suv segment and Australian performance market to worry about, plus the Vettes.
If the Mustang/Camaro weren't around these engines still would be.

No they can't use the IROC name nor should they, that is a dead racing series plus Dodge used the name on Daytonas after Chevy.
The series ended with Firebirds but, Pontiac never used the name.
