I have the stock speakers in my SS and I think it is the same as a 1lt.

It sounds just fine to me,but if you are a big radio guy you may want to upgrade....

I think they're quite good actually.. and as for the BA ones, they actually are not all that good a speaker. They are fairly easy to blow out. Plus a lot of people disable the center speaker since it messes up normal stereo music.

Unhook the wires I assume. I've never driven one with the upgraded speakers but I did sit in one and was not a fan of the center speaker. Perhaps someone who has one can chime in.

The speakers are not that good I have already looked into replacing mine and will be doing it soon the rear speakers have these tiny magnets they are not even Coaxial speakers You don't have to spend a lot change out the rears and you probaly won't have to do the mids or tweeters that are in the doors figure $100-$150 bucksmaybe more maybe less if you do it your self and what you like.
I the Bose speakers in my Acadia and it is the best factory stereo I have ever listened to.

The stock speakers were the FIRST thing to go on my LS. They have paper cones that'll rot-I splurged and bought Altec-Lansings. Made a huge difference. The car's so quiet anyway it just sounds totally amazing...

I've been driving a 1LT loaner with the stock system for a few days now, while my 2SS/RS is in the shop. I would not have thought there would be a big difference in the sound quality between the stock and BA systems, but there is. I've been fiddling with the EQ and fader settings to try to get it to sound as good as my car does...no go. The stock system is not terrible...but it is NOT as good as the BA.

Now, I am not ascribing this difference only to the speakers...I don't know what other differences exist between the two systems (besides the center speaker, which I have not disabled), but I suspect there may be some differences in the electronics too.

All this said, the BA system is not the best I've ever heard either...but it is very good, and I am satisfied enough that I have no plans to upgrade any components. If any of the paper cone speakers fail or rot, I will replace them when (if) that happens.

Hope this helps balance your info...

Best of luck with your decision!

Don't know if the speakers in an LS are any different than in a 1LT, but mine sound great! If they ever blow out, I'll replace with MB Quart, my favorite brand.

There isnt really any bass or tremble but it is very clear and easy to understand whatever song is being played. I dont know if the BA would be worth the like 500 or so it costs since you could probably put in a good aftermarket for cheaper and later down the road.

My last car had a 650W Rockford Fosgate system w/sub (from the factory). The stock stereo on my LT can't really compare to that, but I guess it's to be expected. It's not awful or anything, and it's nice that at least it has 6 speakers. I've been playing around with the EQ settings, and it's sounding pretty nice. Not gonna be blastin' bass and shakin' windows or anything, but that's not really my style anyway

The GM sub that can be added looks pretty cool, but hell, it's like a grand or something:(

I HATE the stock speakers. I am a huge music fan and my previous car had a premium sound system in it. I turned on the radio in my Camaro it sounds so flat. Granted it sounds alot better on CD/Ipod. XM makes it even worse.

Definitely! Ipod sounds great but there is no bass no bottom. The rear speakers need to go.

Stock speakers (non BA) are really bad. I've been driving Vette's for the past 10 years, and they had the premium (Bose) systems. Maybe I got spoiled. Heck, my wife's HHR base radio sounds better than the base radio in the Camaro. I've already looked into replacing the speakers and adding an amp.

When it comes to replacing the stock speakers in BA system, is it any more complex, it terms of wiring, than it would be on any other system? Has anyone changed out there speakers themselves?

Stock drivers are fine. I did add a sub as there was no low-end.

Changing the rears will be a huge pain as you need to pull the entire back-seat area out to get to them. Why, GM, why? LOL

I spoke extensively to a custom sound shop about replacing the factory speakers. He said the radio is set with flat sound curves to avoid blowing the speakers. Replacing the speakers without replacing the head unit is a waste of time. Said on scale of 1 to 10, maybe a 2-3 in improvement. He wasnt just trying to get more money - he wouldnt even install new speakers. So yes the speakers ar cheap but the head unit is the culprit. Dont bother changing speakers without a new head unit - or if you must keep factory radio - add a sound processor and amplifier to new speakers.

IIRC, you have separate EQ settings for the different audio devices. I discovered this after tuning my CD to what I liked, then noticing my iPod/Aux device was still at the default "flat" EQ. Then I went through tuning my radio and XM...much better now.
