Quiet aftermarket exhaust?

Hi all

I want to fit a stainless steel exhaust to my 2SS, but ideally I don't want it to be any louder than stock. I would be grateful for any comments. Which aftermarket exhausts are on the quiet side? My objectives are first to increase exhaust system lifetime, and second if possible save a bit of weight.

I'm with you on this one, but I think you are going to be in the minority.

Love my street Magnaflow catback. Quiet at low throttle and loud when I get on it.

I'm with you on the quiet exhaust system for my LS3 M6.

Stealth is what I'm looking for and still have an nonrestrictive exhaust system. I'm trying different combo's of design to achieve this but, not there yet.

I don't want people to hear me coming and going, for me, all they should know is "he was just here but now he is.... GONE".

The stock system is stainless steel. Not the highest grade of stainless, but it is stainless and will last many years.

If longevity is number one, why not get the years of use out of the stock system - then replace. Unless you take a lot of short trips, it will be many years.

I live in the rust belt, and have had many OE exhaust systems last many many years. I sold an 03 Silverado last year that had been through 6 winters, and still on the OE exhaust.

Magnaflow #16483. 3" COMP CAT Back. Not loud, but it does give it a nice low deep growl. Makes it sound like you have a V8. I love mine!!

The stock mufflers are magnetic so it must very low grade stainless.

Borla Touring

I'm getting Borla Sport for a little more noise. Can't quite go to Borla Atak.

400 series stainless is magnetic, and a common series of stainless for both OE and aftermarket systems. The better/pricier aftermarket systems are often a 300 series like 304, those are non magnetic.

I doubt you'd find many cars with non magnetic OE exhaust systems. I had a vette once with Ti mufflers. Nice and light, but makes for a pricey car. Which works when your competition is Viper and 911.

When your price competition is Mustang, the top shelf metals are not an option.

Thanks for the comments. I wasn't aware the stock system is stainless, I'm slightly surprised even. I'm going to take a closer look. The main reason I want maximum life is that I'm taking the SS back to the UK and with shipping and 20% sales tax you can imagine the cost of an exhaust change later. Plus any weight saved, will save gas and at $7 a gal that's an issue too.

Quieter cat-back system...hmmm to each his own I guess. Seriously though, I have seen many videos of the Borla sport or the Magnaflow street series are probably good choices. Maybe slp loudmouth II's. Check out the video compilation clip page, there are tons of options. I assume you do not want to add headers to the equation?

The stock exhaust mufflers are heavy enough to use as boat anchors, doubt though you will find a quieter system.

The stock cat back exhaust as mentioned previously is stainless and since it can handle in excess of 600 plus HP why bother replacing it?

My number one reason, was that it looked terrible. I've seen people paint the garbage can mufflers with high temp black, and that made a big difference.

Magnaflow's "street" cat-back is the quietest system I have heard.
