Front brakes smoking!

Ok so I was driving from my house to my school and I was going 65-70mph on the freeway and everytime I step on the brakes I noticed that my steering wheel was shaking at first I thought it was just the road and I noticed that it was shaking everytime I step on the brakes. So I exited the freeway because im very paranoid when it comes to my car. And I noticed that there was smoke coming out from the front brakes!! Like seriously smoking and there was a smell that I think was the pads. But the smoke was coming from the back of the Brakes??

Have you guys ever experienced this??

Im really woried!

Also I changed my rotors to R1 Cross/Drilled rotors front and back. Any of you guys that have R1 rotors experienced this??

I need your help guys!

Thanks.

Sounds like your pistons are getting hung up. Does it accelerate normally or does it feel sticky?

You are sure its the front brakes and the rear parking brake isnt stuck too?

Now that you mentioned that I did notice that it felt different when accelerating.

The front brakes were just the one I noticed.

Is this bad??

Start from scratch. Id pull the front passenger side caliper first and inspect it/pads and rotor for damage. Make sure the pistons move and reinstall and rebleed it. Then the same for the driver side.

Probably warped brake rotors.

Probably only one side sticking and warped the rotor. If I had to guess.

But at slow speeds the steering was normal.

But as soon that it gets hot enough it starts to shake. And the shaking increases over time. As soon as I slow down it stops shaking and everything feels normal. Except it feels sticky.

The steering shaking only happens when I step on the brakes.

wut could have caused this??

The shaking is the warped rotor pushing back on the brake pads. So esentially they are moving in and out with every rotation of the wheel. The faster you go the more noticable the vibration from it.

I don't mean to be a juice bag but I would suggest that you go take a auto mechanics class at a local community college or something.

OP, yes your brake warranty is F'ed. Your iRotors are probably warped...1 side of both (passenger and driver). Either go back to stock, or get the after-market ones replaced asap. Did you follow the break-in procedure/instructions that came with the rotors...you did right? If the rotors are warped, be sure to tell whoever you bought them from that you did break them in per instructions.

If the rotors caused the problem or the installation of the rotors caused the problem you will have not GM warranty support. That is the bad news. The good news is that you are fine even though your brakes were smoking. No matter what the dollar cost you walked away from a potentially disastrous situation.

Did you do the install of the rotors?

Sounds like a warped rotor. If a piston got hung up, it could have over heated a disk.

Sounds like take it apart and inspect it time.

New brakes and pads will smoke a little. Its not something I consider to be too abnormal. However the vibration is not.

I would think it might have been an install issue, however its hard to tell over the internet.

We have too little information to make any judgements. How many miles did you have on the rotors when the problem started?

Well I've been driving the car w/ the rotors for 2300+ miles already and the rotors worked flawlessly.

Until what happened today.

Also if it was the rotor install it would have come up earlier cuz I drive my car everyday to school. and I travel about 80 - 90 mi. a day.
