This has been out there since August ..... It is just that legal steps are needed as any contract GM enters into will cover their @ss in this likelihood.

Have faith........This car was meant to be the start of GM'S REBIRTH.

It's going to be the 55 CHEVY of the 21 century.

You need to change the headline of this thread.....most folks would not give it a read..

Headline needs to say "Camaro Start of Production May Be Pushed Back - GM Files Lawsuit Against Supplier"

My son (who has a 2SS/RS ordered) has told me he'll cancel if the car isn't ready and waiting upon his arrival back from Iraq in April.

He'll buy a used Corvette.

straight info re: Cadence supplied parts

Cadence has the dies for the camaro instrument panel. They mold the panel. Additionally, they purchase the gauges etc. for them from another supplier, assemble the completed IP and sell the entire assembled unit to GM. Keep in mind that this also applies to the floor console with gauges.

Cadence has released the dies to manufacturers in the past, but only after the manufacturer has paid for them. I'm not saying GM has not paid for them...I did'nt want to put my neighbor on the spot answering such a question. However, for whatever reason the dies are not being released to GM at this time. I did not ask if any finished product was being released etc. and again I would'nt put a friend in the position of answering questions like that during such a sensitive time.

So....it would appear that there will be a slight delay for GM to obtain these parts unless the legal beagles can work their magic quickly or GM decides to throw a bunch of sheckles to a supplier. I'm sure it is a situation that GM has worked their way through before.

And "yes"...I'm as upset about it as anyone else on this site. I will let everyone know if I get any additional factual information in the future, but such info will probably be released to the press first anyway.

If they were to delay it would hopefully give them more time for ABL, and possibly HUD if we're lucky.

I would be very inclined to cancel my order if this means more than 2 weeks of it being pushed back. My current lease will be ending at the end of March. Also, we have already waited entirely too long for this car. The car is bordering on "dated" already with how long ago the concept first appeared and how long its been getting press. Every time I talk to somebody who has any knowledge of the car, they ask "isn't that out yet?" Although I have been very patient thus far, I am beginning to feel the same way.

GM suing supplier to keep Camaro production going

Quote:
Every time GM turns a corner it seems to come face to face with another obstacle. The latest setback concerns supplier Cadence, LLC, which provides interior parts for the 2010 Camaro. Cadence declared bankruptcy in August, and is now in liquidation proceedings. To GM's chagrin, joining Cadence in its descent into commercial tar pits are the specialized machines that GM needs to make parts for the Camaro.

If GM can't get the tooling, there are certain to be disruptions at assembly plants and then on down the food chain. The General would then need to pay to have the tooling made again while it looks for another supplier, a cost GM describes as "substantial." GM would like to have a new supplier in place by January 12, 2009 because Camaro production is slated to begin on February 16, with deliveries in mid-March.

So far, it's unclear as to who actually owns the machines in question - Cadence or GM - and Cadence has had nothing to say on the matter. Regardless, if GM doesn't get its way, then it has to spend a chunk of the money it just fought for to recover old ground. The most recent precedent isn't promising: Chrysler tried to get the tooling from bankrupt parts supplier Plastech, and was denied.

This could be just the beginning of GM's troubles. It's sad, but, true. I am prepared to expect countless delay's in the camaro. Those of you who have not put down a deposit and are not expecting one of the first camaro's are in a far better situation then those of us that have.

Perhaps GM will update all on 1-9-09.

I agree 100% with what Scott asked. In fact we all did just that - to the tune of a recent $17 Billion dollar loan to the auto industry. Perhaps that same industry will build us some great no excuse cars now.

I'm willing to bet that Cadence has not paid their vendors for labor and/or materials for the dies, thus are hesitant to turn them over to GM because their vendor(s) may have been listed as creditors in the bankruptcy. The Court would not look kindly on Cadence turning over an asset to GM that was part of court controlled bankruptcy process. Worse case, GM could petition the court to step in and pay Cadence's tooling related unpaid vendors and ask for possession of the tooling. That means that if they paid Cadence and Cadence didn't pay the vendors, GM pays twice. We're going to see more of this in the future, you can be sure.
