Heh, I've got 2 50's now and a couple level 20's I am trying to get up to 50 as well. Have a Juggernaut Tank and a Mercenary DPS at 50. My Merc is already in full Rakatta gear. Been doing alot of cake eating lol.

What does DPS mean? I'm new to MMOs and all of these acronyms are very confusing to me. I also don't know what an "alt" is (the sith heads podcast says alt CONSTANTLY)

DPS is a Damage class. Its short for Damage Per Second. Usually there are 3 main class types to play in an MMO. DPS, Tank or Healer. Alt is referred to Alternate Character. Its any other character you create and use other than your Main character.

I'm fairly new to this whole mmo thing as well. i have a level 40, 20something and a 12ish. lol DPS is damage per second, i think. Or, if someone says they have or are looking for DPS, it means a character that can deal a lot of damage.

I think alt is just alternate. meaning not your main character. So for me, my main is the level 40 because he's the highest, and the one i spend most of my time on. The other two are alts.

and tank is someone who takes all the agro and gets pounded on, so the DPS guys can do their work. lol

Thank you! That makes sense! I always thought the "Tank" was the hitter AND damage taker. Wow...It's so much clearer now.

well yeah, the tank does do some damage, but usually not as much as someone spec'd for DPS.

So where does a smuggler fall? They don't do alot of damage I don't think. I can do some healing but it seems pretty useless

I have a Sith Warrior - Juggernaught (Tank). I had a sniper, but did not care for it as much.

Depends what Skill tree you went up. They can do some seriously insane DPS but they can also heal. It depends on what specialization you took.

Yeah, I did not care for the combat mechanics so much. I got to level 16 I think. Still have him, but dont use him.

Yeah Sniper is one of the classes where its ALL damage.

from a players view point: it seems the game is still going strong

of course some people will leave the game and go back to their games they came from. But it seems to be holding steady at a playable level

Its not as big as the hype was prior to launch. But the servers are still vastly populated. New content is also being added quite frequently. It seems those that are bailing were either looking for an SWG clone or those that only like to PvP 24/7. If you enjoy story and Bioware games in general I cant see any reason why you wouldnt enjoy SWTOR.

I'm a die hard star wars fan but paying monthly? I've never games on a PC and used to playing online for free on the PS3. Is there any way I can get a trial before I buy the game.

There are a large variety of PC games that are Pay to Play. Its a platform that allows for weekly content fixes and updates. World of Warcraft is one of the largest Pay to Play games out there that uses this model.
