LS3 Torque Management

Forgive me if I'm wrong.... I read that the LS3 engine has torque management. I thought that was only for the L99 auto's. Does anyone know what % of torque is held back due to this? Does anyone have experience tuning this out? Thanks for the info guys.

This might be better in the tuning forum but yes it is frequently tuned out by most. I don't know exactly how much it holds back though.

yes, tthe LS3 does have it. since it is a drive by wire throttle, it does not hit WOT as quickly as you petal it. in between shifts it softens the the throttle for a fraction of a second to act as a cushion for the clutch/rdrivetrain.
I felt it on my car at the track before I got a tune on the car. once it was tuned, I don't feel the lag between shifts. not sure if Ted turned it off or just minimized it. but it isn't noticable like it was before.

From the factory it's limited in steps up to 3K RPM, limited somewhere around 150lb-ft down real low to unrestricted at and above 3K. Can't remember the exact numbers.

Yes Ted's basic tune turns it off. Feels much better after it's off.

Just have to remind you though that "most" people don't get it tuned out. A lot on this forum give up their warranty to do so, but most people don't if you consider the entire Camaro owner population. Giving up a 5 year 100,000 mile warranty is a big deal just to remove torque management.

Does putting the car in Competition Mode affect the TM at all?

I was told by Ted that GM limits torque below 3,000 rpm to a max of 280. After Ted installed headers and tuned it, I gained a little over 60 ftlbs of torque at 2,900 rpm.

I only have a two year warranty on mine....I guess because mine was an export model here in Cayman. One more year for me and I am free of the chains.

Just have to remind you that "most" people know that. You don't have to bring it up everytime, like you are enlightening us all. :bangdesk:

You are way off here ... Most people are new to the Camaro and moding, and have no idea what changes are going to void their warranties. Also most members are very grateful for the information posted by Number 3, since he has been involved with the Camaro since preproduction and knows these cars better than anyone ...

+1.

If you read back through most modding threads, you'll find AT LEAST one person that asks if it will void your warranty.

If you refer to the SAE #'s on the LS3, it shows about 290 lbs torque at 1,000RPM....up to 360ish at 3000RPM. That would calculate to 80lb torque loss before 3000RPM. That seems to be a huge Butt Dyno difference. Or am I reading too much into this?

My most sincere appologies..................you'd be surprised at the battles that still rage on this topic. But I am glad you are "enlightened".

There do seem to be a few people that don't realize this point and I just try to make sure everyone fully enjoys this wonderful car. I would hate to have someone read the "everyone does it", and then find out later that it had consequences.

So again, sorry, just trying to help.
