a/c problem

ok here is some history.. i took my car in last week for warm a/c dealer found that the r134 was .3lbs low they filled it and checked for leaks with no problem. the a/c was then colder like it should be. today it is 97 degrees outside and the a/c will get cool but not cold. it works best with the recirc button on. when i have fresh air on (with snowflake on and at max cool) it is only mildly cool. mind you im not sweating inside the car but im not chilled either. so the question is.....is the air not working as well today because of the outside temp or is there a problem again. ty in advance.

Just took my Camaro in for A/C issue (not cooling too well).

Supposedly the dealer found and fixed a leaky low pressure side valve.

We shall see.

If it's 97 out you will have problems. It's been consistently 98-100 here in DFW and I have to bring it to the 3rd fan setting to feel cool (with max cold). But if its around 80, at the first setting it is icy cold.

I too have had my car over a year. Last summer I really wondered about the cooling of the a/c. If I was idling, sitting in the car running waiting for someone or something for just a little bit, it seemed to get warmer and warmer. It stayed that way until I actually started driving for a little bit. We also had a couple of weeks with 100 degree weather during that time.

I still feel this occasionally if I just start the car and have the a/c running without actually driving. But when I start driving it does cool off and get cold, sometimes takes several (5 - 10 minutes) to feel "cold". It stays cold until I am at my destination. So, I figured it was just not able to cool as well just sitting still as well. I never had anything checked out, but will mention it to the dealer next time I get my oil changed.

Good luck!!!

On a hot day I get a lot of warm air out of the vents for a while which I think is an air vent out of adjustment, the AC cools down but it takes a while.
I agree, on an 80 deg day its icy cold.

The hotter and more humid it is out, the less effective/efficient the A/C becomes. It's the nature of the beast.

Your location says USA so I'll have to guess by your username you're in AZ. I must say if I was in the Desert SW this A/C probably wouldn't cut it. It's definitely not the best...

I wish it would stay 97 here in AZ, well where I am at anyways. When I leave for work in the morning it has been 100 degrees out and this week the lowest temp has been 90 (during the night) with the hottest on the way home it has been 116, humidity has been noticable also this week. I leave my A/C on max and fans on max, it does not move from this position, unless I go up north, then I can turn it down a few clicks. Takes me 20 minutes to get to work and by the time I get there, the car is comfortable, but not cold (I keep my office at 67 degrees). When the temps are lower than 90, I only have to turn the fans up half way to stay comfortable or full with recirc to start feeling cool.

I plan on taking mine in to have them just check the A/C as my 2008 Silverado I traded in had no problems at all to keep the inside cool and it was all black with out tint, just left it on auto at 70 degrees and I would hardly ever hear the fans kick in high.

Our A/C was getting cool, but not cold, and it was cycling warm sometimes. The dealership said there have been a few updated versions of the condenser since ours was built. They replaced the condenser under warranty last week. It's icy cold now!

Stick a Dial type thermometer into the center diffuser, open both doors and turn the fan on high and keep the engine RPM at 2000. The temp should get down to 40 deg.

an aside: I have a 2009 CTS which has much better cooling than the 2LT (same engine) and it's 105 today and getting to 115 the next few days.

Maybe I am lucky but here in Tampa I have to keep my a/c fan on 1/3 when its 95, sunny, and 97% humidity. Sounds like its not running efficiently to me. In addition I love it cold as I keep my house at 67-70 year round so its not me either. I would monitor it closely and be sure its working ok.

I think you guys need to move to San Diego. It gets warm, but nothing like what I've been reading. And 100% humidity? Ouch! I think I'm gonna go to the beach. It's a couple minutes away.

It was 117 here yesterday and I was fine. I keep mine at max cold, full blast and recirc. Keep in mind it gets colder as you drive. I generally get to the point where it's too cold and turn in down some (since I drive on the freeway on the way home)

I bought a dial thermometer at Wal-mart after my A/C was worked on.

The center diffuser gets to 42F and the drivers side diffuser gets to about 50F.

My A/C works really well, and I've seen days of 100F with no issues. Something I found that helps is if you are going to be parked outside for a long time get a sun screen. That keeps the temp inside the car cooler, and that will allow the car to cool down quicker. This thread might help you out: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...ight=sun+visor

I too thought I had a problem with my A/C...when above 90 it doesnt feel that cold. I took it to the dealership and they said there was nothing wrong with it. On the service slip I got back the technician's comment was, "tested the center vent with A/C on max and got temperature of 49 degress, A/C is working properly". It was a high of 83 degrees during the day. Does that temperature seem right?

You need to take it on the road and check the temp, I went on a 5 hour trip yesterday, outside temp was 101 , high humidity, my center vent temp fluctuated from 40 to 45 , fan speed at half, almost too cold at times, When I first got the car in March, I noticed it wasn`t cooling very well , but decided to wait until it warmed up a bit, when it was warmer I could tell it wasn`t cooling very well so I added just a bit of refrigerant and now it is much better.
