DIY - Blacked Out Taillight Bezel Removal & Install

I have been de-badging and blacking out all the chrome bit by bit, here are a few pics of the the tail lights.

-Open trunk, remove 2 plastic inserts held in place by 6 tabs, use a flat blade screw driver and pry up on the center of each tab a 1/2 inch then pull out.

-Remove the bezels by reaching in and around each individual tab and push outward, but not too hard they are plastic. No need to remove the actual tail light, because the bezel is attached to the bumper not the light.

- Once removed wet sand with fine grit sand paper, to ruff up the surface so the paint doesn't run off.

- Wash the bezels with dish soap to remove debris and get and greasy residue off. Let dry completely.

- I then used masking tape to cover all the tabs on the bezel that attach to the bumper, for easier future removal.

- Paint whatever color you wish, but I used Rustoleum satin black, It leaves a nice thick smooth finish, doesn't require primer, and holds up well to weather and washing.

- I painted 2 quick coats, let dry for 2 hours in the shaded garage, then one more coat and let dry over night.

- Check your paint job, remove masking tape, snap the bezels back into place, reinstall the plastic inserts and you got a sick look and saved some $$$.

Took the bezels off my car to paint them tomorrow. Unfortunately, When removing the black inserts, one of the fasteners fell down behind the tail lights into oblivion. I heard it clunk all the way down. Hopefully, I can find another one lying around somewhere...

Are you going to black out the outline on the SS or RS emblems? They have chrome too!!! Just curious...
