Looks like there are a few who have had this same problem.

Jeff Morris are there any service bulletins on this problem?

newmoon, I'm sorry but I don't have specific TSB information that I can give out or even use. The best place to get the most up to date information on our TSB's will be the dealership. There may be a time in the future that I can give out certain TSB information. Hopefully that time comes soon.

Noisy belt

I've had my car in twice for the noisy belt issue.
First time they cleaned up the pulleys etc then replaced the belt the second visit.

I had thought the whole time I had noise that it was surely one of the pulleys making the noise. When I read this post I checked my AC Belt and sure enough it was off by a groove. You may want to rule this out on your car, it's very easy to miss if your not looking for it.

Mine just started doing this. As always expecting the worst. I will be dropping by the dealership now to get this resolved.

They lubricated the AC Belt, but ordered a new one from Michigan. I never told them what I thought it was, so it seems to match what others here are say. Having it lubbed sounds better, but you can still hear the squealing a bit.

Anyone have a part number on this belt? I am having this problem as well and would just rather fix it myself.

Thanks in advance!

I got this also. The noise started today.

At first I thought it was one of the pulleys or maybe even the serp. belt, but everything was aligned and not wobbly. First pass everything looked normal. Got here on the forums, found this thread..went out and checked the AC belt..sure enough it's off - but not by 1 rib, it's off by 2. You can easily miss this if you're not looking for it specifically. (As said earlier)

I am going to call my dealer tomorrow, give them a heads-up and hopefully I can get in Saturday.

Set up the appointment to have it 'looked at'.

Funny enough the guy says after I explained the problem and my discovery: "What kind of car is it?" I go: "A 2011 Camaro SS" - immediately he goes, in a new tone: "Well, you could have over revved your engine or a pulley is out of alignment". I simply said: "Hmm, interesting because I have an auto." His tone completely changed and goes "We'll see ya on Monday!"

Mine has started fraying twice now. First time at 1800 miles and now at 5500 miles. Dealer replaced belt and cluch assembly the first time. Going to dealer in the morning. No noise so far I can hear.

Had my belt and balancer replaced 3 weeks ago. No noise in the 300 miles since then.

It is very loud bc I was inside my office the other day and could hear it inside when my boyfriend drove it to the store.

less than 1,000 on a 2011 2SS/RS. Sounds like we have the same problem. Took to dealer, from what I'm told happend....He went in and put powder in his hand like from an ajax can and put on belt. He said becuase of dust was collecting and the moister and the cold. Gona have to take it back, noise is still there. Dont think it was a tech. that looked at car. I dont think belt is off a rib...looks normal. Will see.

link to noise

This has started to happen to me. It is now at 17k miles and the squeal noise begins when the car cold starts, then eventually going away after about a 10 minute drive. I think its the ac belt, pulley. I will look into it after work and let you guys and gals know whats up. The noise is enough to drive me insane.

Ok update.. Woke up with a bad hang over and the noise only made me wanna blow up the car. But I'm not. Anyways, I noticed the ac belt was off one groove. It sits on top of the crank. Anyone know why this happens?

The senior service guy I deal with at my dealer told me when I had mine done that it's just load on the system from WOT and then letting off, eventually it 'hops' off due to centrifugal force? I'm no engineer.

He did say, that there was no TSB at the time and he was going to go to some service meeting with some GM people at some point and escalate it to make sure it is known to either become a TSB or make sure it is in the process of being made into a TSB.

Take it for what it's worth.

This makes sense. For now im just going to loosen up the crankshaft, align the belt and see what happens after. And thanks for the tip Blake.

I have this exact issue. I will go inspect the belt later on today.

I had taken it into the dealership, and I was so irritated with their lack of interest into looking into the issue and overall treatment(held my car for 2 days and lied several times about "looking at it". Day 2, they never even started my car.), that I will never purchase a car or have warranty work done with them again. (yes, different topic). I wont even go into the second gear grind issue that they wont look into either. If your in the bay area, do yourself a favor and stear clear of Concord Chevrolet......

It's good to hear that I will just be able to fix this myself, or at least pay a competent shop to do it.
