No their will not be a gas guzzler tax. The G8 GXP is geared alot more aggresivley than the camaro is which is why it got the gas guzzler tax.

The G8 GXP is geared more agressivly, as previously stated, and it also weighs more which hurts city mileage. GM has stated that they won't let the car have a GG tax.

i don't understand how the '10 camaro is avoiding the gas guzzler tax. i've been researching and am still lost. the tax is based on the average of the city/highway EPA and must average 22.5 MPG+. the V8 camaro is said to be getting 23 MPG highway. for it to make the average it has to get minimum 22 MPG city. that just doesn't make sense to me. either we haven't been told the truth about the EPA or we've misinterpreted the information and the 23 MPG is not the highway numbers but actually the average of city/highway. that would mean the camaro will get something like 18/27, which makes even less sense than 22/23.

i've seen it mentioned that there's some kind of credit given for heavier vehicles, but i've looked up the information and i don't see anything stating that anywhere. can somebody show me a link to where i can actually find this information.

at this point i find it hard to believe everything i'm hearing about the camaro's EPA. thanks for the help

The more you add up the mpgs...the more you'd think the ggt was coming...just go with the words from fbodfather...no ggt for the 10 Camaro!

17/25 results in no gas guzzler tax.
For no penalty the total has to be above 22.5 for the following formula. (Do not ask me how they came up with this formula, there are reasons behind it all but it's from politicians and beaurocrats so don't look for to much logic)

Fi = 1/(.495/Fc+.351/Fh)+.15

Fi is our total that needs to be greater than 22.5
Fc is city mileage
Fh is highway mileage

17/25 results in 23.3+
With 17 city you can drop to 23 highway
With 16 city you have to get highway all the way to 26

The formula posted isn't the official calculation, just an estimate that someone came up with. Gas guzzler mpg's are calculated in a lab unlike regular mpg estimates, which results in over a 10% gain for city mpg's and over a 20% gain for highway mpg's, weighted 55% city 45% highway. Maybe someone in the industry or government could explain the whole thing better but I think I got the basics.

And just for fun a car could get 19/19 and still likely avoid the gas guzzler tax.
