Where are these door panel marks coming from

OK...this may be real stupid. I keep getting whitish surface mars on my door panel. Every time that I pay specific attention to how I get in and out, or how I put on the seat belt I do not catch myself doing anything abnormal. But invariably, two days later there are white marks all over the door panel. They come right off as if it's dry skin/just surface stuff. This is not down low from your foot, but up higher and closer to the seat back area. I keep checking to see if it's my elbow causing it, but no. Anybody noticed this and "corrected" whatever I may be doing..any ideas

It's not your fault. Whatever cheap-o plastic GM used there gets those marks if you look at it wrong. It's the one thing I hate about the car. Just wipe it off with a damp towel. Sometimes I've noticed that Adam's interior conditioner keeps it black longer, but it's by no means a good fix.

Yep, I get the white stuff too. Have no idea what it is. I get it on the door skin close to the window, like I was hanging my arm out the window. Not guilty of that, but it's still there.

I think it's mostly the surface texture rubbing off dead skin (eew).

I was getting horizontal marks in the (I think) same spot... turned out it was my hand and/or the seat belt buckle rubbing againts the door panel ( I don't use the belt loop on the seatback ) as I pulled the buckle around the seat.
I just lift the buckle up higher on the belt, now, before I pull the belt around the seat.

Those door panels run me crazy to. It seems that they will not stay clean. I get the same white spots.

I keep a micro fiber cloth in my map pocket, and a swifter duster in my gove box. Covers most dust an white spot issues.

yep I got them too, its like was stated prior. Dead skin cells left behind every time you contact the surface. Bump your knuckle across one and watch it before your eyes.

I never touch my door panels where these spots show up on my car... I always thought it might be from the seat belt buckle when i release it and it bumps into it when it is retracting. I don't know what else could be causing it.

These white spots sound quite peculiar. I've never experienced this problem and hope that I don't.

Can anybody post pics?

It is dead skin coming off. I noticed this where i would reach for the sun roof without looking and would wipe across the ceiling on accident. A VERY lightly damp micro fiber towel will remove em

Its likely very common on the camaro... GM started using a new panel manufacturing process in these cars that actually debuted on the C6 vette. Its an environmentally friendly process and uses a different set of curing chemicals to harden the plastics. Its also why "new camaro smell" is slightly different than "new car smell" the same chemicals that we all got used to smelling in the interior of a new car (plasticizers, glues, etc) are all being changed. Still smells like a new car, just not the same smell anymore.

For whatever reason the stuff is easily scuffed and holds surface transfers from almost anything that comes in contact with it. Kind of annoying, but not much you can do about it other than clean it when you see it... keeping panels dressed with an interior conditioner will prevent it a little, but not entirely.

As the OP here, I've pretty much figured out it's coming from my ring as I reach for the seatbelt. I think Dylan is right though..just a function of the plastic..use more conditioner and go on. (and fasten seatbelt before closing door)

i use this and pretty much no more white marks. Im sure any product that does the same will fix it. It doesn't leave everything looking super shinny either like how armorall does and i can use it on pretty much everything in the interior.

I use Meguiars Natural spray with scotch guard on the door and dash plastics and it does a good job of maintaining the "new" look.
