We need a vendor to step up and make us a ABL mod in a plug and play setup!!!!

Im sure that there are a ton of people here that would love a plug and play setup to have the ABL all the way around the door inserts and across the dash. Alot of us have seen members that have done this the DIY route, but I think its safe to say that it is not really a job for beginners. So any vendors want to pick up the ball and make us a plug and play kit? (*Cough Cough AAC*) Im sure they would sell like hot cakes! Anyone that would be interested post in this thread and let it be known and dont forget to vote. If theres enough interest maybe we can get this done.

Heres pics of a DIY ABL that FIREWOLFF did for reference.

How about a plug and play for the doors as well for those who don't have it. My problem isn't a willingness to do it myself, but having the time to do it.

Im sure if someone made this plug and play kit that they could do it for the people that are currently without ABL.. I have already seen some people on here do the conversion to the factory ABL panels.

It depends on what exactly is included and if it s a true plug and play. In order to do the ABL you have to sand down and modify the trim pieces. So for a vendor to sell a truly plug and play set they also would have to include these modified parts which cost $450 alone not including the labor and products needed to modify them. Not sure if I want to spend that on something I already have and can do myself. But still offer it for those that have the LS, 1LT, or 1SS.

Now if a vendor wanted to sell the ABL parts prefabbed, wired, soldered, etc along with instructions on how to sand and modify our own trim pieces, now that I could get into to.

As far as the people without the ABL panels you may be right.. Im not sure if a non ABL panel can be made into a panel to accept the ABL. Im sure someone with better knowledge on that situation can clarify. As for the people that already have factory ABL, there could be a core charge that way you arent paying for a full set of panels but just the work done to them, after you receive them you send in your panels and get the core price back. .

Yeah that would also be cool.. Maybe even color shifting so you can change to multiple colors. Guess its all up to what can be done with the parts needed. I would be cool with just ABL color if thats all that would be possible but different colors would definitely be an added bonus!

not all of the cars have the same plugs....the early 2SS and 2LT have the plug in the dash like they were going to put there from the factory, other cars you need to splice wires to get power from. I'd be intereseted in seeing the price and install procedure. It looks like there would still be considerable work on your part (sanding the trim pieces for example)

if there was a 'maybe' choice thats where I'd vote.

Well by plug and play I am hoping that the sanding the trim pieces to allow the light through would be part of the process that is done by the vendor. That way all we would need to do is install the inserts and wire them up. Also, its possible that there could be a solution to get this to work without sanding panels, although I dont know of any lol.. But you never know what ideas might arise if a vendor actually took on this project.

The core issue would be tough because of the many different colors/materials that have the panels.

Pewter
Champagne
Orange
Black cloth
Gray cloth
Synergy

Now...think of how many different types of panels the vendor would have to buy and wait for trades. For customization purposes, the vendor would probably want to offer different color panels (and lights)...so that would add red, black, carbon fiber, yellow, white, blue, etc.

I love the idea...but I do understand why it hasn't been accomplished yet. Hopefully something gets worked out because that is the main interior issue I have...it looks unfinished.

Some of the problems are, LS and 1SS&1LT panels will not work for OEM ABL They do not have the Chanel cut into the back of the panel, The fact that GM changed the main harness 1/2 way in to the 2010 is not a big deal a plug and play harness can be made, Its the out lay of cash to start up that keeps most vendors from doing this, But soon i think it will happen.

From my experience the most common ABL panels are the IOM and grayish silver panels.. If there is enough demand for other specific colors it may be possible to keep a limited amount of those colors in stock as well. Another option for those not in a rush could be to just send in your panels and be without until the process is completed on your panels. As far as the cloth panels go, I dont think that would be an issue considering the cloth would need to be stripped and the panels painted (for an added charge of course). In that situation you would probably need to go without your inserts for a while. Another possibility for people with the non ABL panels would be to buy some used ABL panels or buy a set in the color they want and ship them off to be modded.

Keep the comments and ideas coming guys!

Thanks for the info.. I wasnt sure if the non abl panels would be an option to use for adding ABL. Now that we know that it narrows down what can be done. So the people with factory ABL panels would be good to go.. The people without them would need to buy some used ABL panels or pick up a set of GM aftermarket panels in what ever color they want and have the work done. But who knows, with enough thought possibly the non ABL panels could be modified to get this to work. Where theres a will theres a way As far as the out lay of cash, a preorder could help with that if there were enough willing.

I would like the ABL for the dash panel, to match the door panel ABL. I have a 2011 2LT and love the door lighting but looks unfinished without the dash panel lighting. So add me to the list of people that want a plug and play ABL for my dash panel.

Well an option for whomever/whichever dealer decided to tackle this idea is that if they maybe charged a core charge, since these pieces are so expensive from the dealer, and we mail ours in after so they can modify those pieces and we get our money back for the core. That way they only charge us for the lighting pieces and the man hours...makes it more affordable to the buyer and easier on the company making these. I'd love to see it and if I could get the lighting in red holy crap I'd throw them the money now!!
