So you all know 3M came out with a new light pipe that is thinner, That me make the sanding part on the dash not needed, But its not a clear pipe and may need a 1-2 watt LED's which i am looking in too.

P.S. i have the car apart so this is a good time for some testing.

Is everybody pretty much on board with the light pipe way of doing ABL or are EL lights something you'd be into?

I did EL wire... Can't complain! Very easy and only had to drill 1 tiny hole!

I would love to have my ABL replaced with a full wrap around in white instead of the aqua.

If someone sold a kit (just the wires and lighting stuff, not the trim pieces) and had it all set up with good instructions, and maybe a youtube video I'd buy it. I have read a couple different DIY's on this here, but really haven't seen one that goes into detail on how to get it in your doors on a 1SS.

And perhaps different packages too. For instance one kit for LS, LT, 1SS who have no ABL. Another kit for just dash pieces. and another for just door pieces.

OK, I'm looking into putting together EL kits. I have a 1SS and will use my own car as a guinea pig. Stay tuned.

I'm in. I want this in red. Is it possible to take out my aqua ABL light tubes and replace them with EL wire?

Here is a pic with the new pipe and no sanding of the dash trim, it needs more power and the 1 watt LED's are on the way.

If it is all the way around the door inserts, double lines on the dash and plug and play for the 1SS, consider it sold!

Yes i know but it's too thick for the dash the one i have is only 3.5 mm the one you saying is 6+MM and will not fit right for the dash with out sanding, This was with a small 3 mm LED like this one,

What i want to try is putting this behind it to see how it looks,

And adding a 15 degree Focusing Lens to it

Do you sell kits to do this? As in if I send you money you could mail me all the LEDs and wires etc to do this mod myself? Please PM if this is possible. I really really want to switch to red ABL

Anyone that would be interested post in this thread and let it be known and dont forget to vote. If theres enough interest maybe we can get this done.

Heres pics of a DIY ABL that FIREWOLFF did for reference.

Your going to have to have a pretty bright light to get a decent ABL wihtout sanding.

But without sanding do you have any dim spots toward the middle or end of the light pipe? and are you plugging an LED on both ends of the pipe?

I think this might be something that is easy enough to make a plug and play harness for without having to out source to another country. If I had the capital to go buy a bunch of core parts to start up some kits I could have some EL wire ones done as soon as the parts got in. Its really not that complicated. Its a matter of a little bit of sanding and plugging into a power supply. Other than the sanding (unless I had the core parts from GM) a harness could be put together that would only require someone to either plug it in or T-tap it in. Which would make the hardest part for them to take the pieces off the dash! Which is where a good DIY walk through with pics/video comes in.

Sadly I am a poor single guy without the means!

Oops forgot to mention that you would have to glue the piping for the EL wire to the back of the dash trim too. But if your not comfortable with putting a few drops of glue on to hold it in place ask one of your kids to do it, they learn how to glue in school!

I would love to have this all the way across the dash. The dash needs something it just a plain space.
