TEXAS MILE RESULTS - POST HERE

Out here at the TEXAS mile. Didn't make runs until TODAY. Only accident we saw was a Lamborghini that got destroyed when the chute lifted the rear end of the car off the ground at FULL SPEED!!! Driver unhurt.

I am number 327. BLACK 2010 RS/SS with heritage grill and roughy 500 RWHP NA. Cross winds today were VERY strong up to 25 MPH. Race director said that had probably a 4-5 MPH negative effect. Anyhow best today for me was 163.1. Will do much better tomorrow I hope.

I see probably at LEAST 4 or 5 other 5th gens but being new to this board, I will let them post up if they want. This is my first time for the TEXAS MILE and it is a blast. Still having issues with knowing EXACTLY when to shift because of my 4.11 gears and 7400 redline in FIFTH gear.

One of the guys in my group shifted my car into 6th gear and that was a mistake so the ticket will be to hit the redline in FIFTH gear at the Mile Marker which SHOULD be 175 MPH +. The car was really moving at the top end due to the crosswinds today.

Sunday 7:26 AM

Hear the motorcycles being fired up already. They are staging up early for the 8AM start of runs. They are CONSIDERABLY less people here today. The wind is NONEXISTENT. Should be a good day.

Me and a bunch from the H-Town Camaro Club were there.....had a great time and got to see ya'll run....but the wind was CRAZY. I found a video of the crash....but it really doesn't show much, because it was taken from the starting line, almost standing right next to me.....but the guy that posted it up, had been working with an older video and goofed up and put the wrong date on the title opening, which is why it shows MARCH 2010....but that IS the video from yesterday, watch the whole thing and he explains at the end.

Agreed. Do the run in 5th. I'd be interested in seeing what a camaro with 600rwhp could do.

I'm surprised with those kinds of crosswinds they allowed a vehicle with a rear chute to go down the track. I guess in hindsight they may reconsider next time...

Here is a C5 member(Drigar) Camaro w/result

Also ran into a couple from out of OK there in their Camaro. Asked if they were C5 members and he told me they get on here and read sometimes.

MORE TEXAS MILE INFO

JUISD,

YES that is my car. WE made about 6 runs on Sunday. BEST run was 168.2 and we had 2 others within .1 of a MPH of that. The BEST run I saw with a 5th gen was a supercharged car that ran about 174. My car is NA with ported heads, manifold, throttle body 4.11 gears and 3 inch stainless exhaust with headers. It also has a relatively large cam form TSP. I actually bought it this way because it was Jason's car at TEXAS SPEED and PERFORMANCE so all those parts were TSP's. It makes about 500 rear wheel horsepower.

We drove the car down to Goliad from Dallas area and it got about 14.2 average miles per gallon at higher than posted speeds. I DID get stopped TWICE for no liscense plate and got warning for both within about 30 minutes time.

The MOST impressive run on Sunday was a motorcycle EARLY in the morning that did 277!!! He started off VERY slowly so I turned my head another direction and he must have been geared VERY LOW because next thing I knew I heard an announcement of the speed. AWESOME!!!

TIPS for the newcomers (ME!!!)

1. Tape off behind the wheels and the rocker panels if you don't want rock chip gouges on your car. THAT"S the purpose of the green tape on my car. Alot of people used the BLUE painters tape but that doesn't stick or hold up as well,

2. NEVER EVER think 6th gear is usable in these events, Ideally you need to be at MAXIMUM RPM in 5th gear when you cross the line. My max is around 7400 RPM and the best I could do was around 6700 with my 4.11 gears and 28.4 inch tall rear tires. So 170 MPH is entirely possible with my combination as it sits now.

3. Run about 45 pounds of air pressure in your tires because you have less rolling resistance.

4, Get a short stick shifter with shorter throws. The stock shifter SUCKS in these events because it is MUCH too easy to miss a gear and when you do that it kills your speed.

Get an MGW shifter.....

I should've had you sit in mine when we were at CCC so you could feel it. The stock shifter definatley SUCKS IMO.

Thought I would post up some pics we took Sunday. First is of a C5 member, Drigar, and his first run on Sunday. The second is pretty good, you need to read the door on the Porsche and then look at the speed that he posted I think something went wrong on the run.

Better VIDEO of the LAMBO crash

Here is a better video of the Lambo crash. One theory is the parachute was too short and the high gusty winds turned the car to the right once the chute filled up with air.

Well, I'm back from the Texas Mile and a day of work. We had no connectivity out at the mile, so here's my results from my 7 attempts down the airstrip. This was my first time on the track, so I started slow and worked up with each run. My Camaro has automatic 6 speed, 1 7/8" headers, 3" exhaust, CAI, and a tune.

Friday, medium head/crosswinds

Run 1: 126.8
Run 2: 132.8
Run 3: 140.0 (which was my speed trial goal for the event)

Saturday, strong head/crosswind:

Run 4: 145.4
Run 5: 146.6

Sunday, Light crosswind:

Run 6: 149.0
Run 7: 148.2

I should have made a few more passes on Sunday as the wind died down to get my 150, but we were packing up and I was ready to head home. It was a great time and I'm glad I did it. I may not have been the fastest out there, but I had a ton of fun

Close to 1000 pictures of my Texas Mile can be seen here:
