Dyno Day videos!
Well I can honestly say it was a successful event. Good turnout and lot's of fun.
The food they had was EXCELLENT! Kudo's to the chef. She did great and everyone appreciated it. We even Dynoed the tow truck! lol Sorry guys that left early you missed it! Here's the vids I took. They are all in HD but you may have to select it as I think it defaults to 480p.

It was on a Dyno-Max dyno. It seemed to read a bit lower than most. I think Paul's lower numbers were do to him only having 1600 miles still, what really threw me was when Bee's went up it's numbers fell right inline with where an L99 should be. So Who knows! lol It was still a fun day.

Also you haven't even changed it's oil yet! That alone could hurt it a bit. I mean it's been in there for over a year! Of course since you're putting it away for the winter I'd wait till you take it out next year. Keep in mind you only did one pull. Normally you would do 3 pulls and it would probably have gone higher.

I think they did the pull in 6th gear! Does it matter if traction controll is on or off?

Traction control should be off but 6th gear wouldn't matter. Although the dyno probably wouldn't have liked it spinning to 155mph. Of course if it was in 5th or 6th it would have hit the speed limiter long before 6500 rpm's.

I wouldn't worry to much. I would say if you're REALLY concerned do the fuse pull and see if it feels any different, but I don't think it's anything to worry about.

Couple of things.......First don't pay any attention to the torque number they have listed with your HP, reason is this is the torque you made at peak horse power, not peak torque.
Check the top of the peak of the torque curve, mine was ~351 at the wheels and my peak HP was around 345 on my graph. Typically when you dyno you get reported peak hp and torque, they only reported hp. Also, every dyno reads different there are variations between type and dyno to dyno. Plus we only made 1 pull, so there is statistical variation and to get a true reading we should have done 3 pulls and take the average. Paul my AFR was 11.89 and I believe yours was around 11.2 ish? That makes a big difference as you car is running very rich compared to mine. Leaning out the tune will free up power for sure. As I told a bunch of you I will be getting HP tuners soon and learning to tune OBDII on my daily driver....once I get the hang of it I will be tuning the camaro in the spring/summer. I'll revisit this same dyno and see what I put down then. It was a great time and glad we could all make another outing!

Another thought, but what gas did you have in there Paul, high octane or low octane.
If you had low octane then the computer will sense knock and go to the low octane spark table, this would explain why you dynoed lower than me. I put a full tank of sunoco 93 premium in before I left that morning.......That maybe why I dynoed a little higher than some.

Paul, as I mentioned to you Saturday, the run was done in 3rd gear, and the trac control was off....if it was on, it wouldn't let the car roll. The pull could be done in 1st or 6th and the numbers would be within a few hp because as long as the dyno knows engine rpm vs acceleration rate the math is worked out.
Your car is VERY rich as you can see compared to the other cars. I told you my car did the same thing, and I picked up 13hp and 1/2 an a/f ratio after disconnecting the battery cable for a few min on the roller. This tank of fuel is probably different somehow than the car is used to and it's still using the old corrections. Going to a different dyno may give you a different number, but it won't make the car any faster. My car dyno'd 335hp at SD the week after I got back from the track running 12.7@111, so the power is there. Every machine shows slightly different numbers, if all that matters is a piece of paper with a big number then go to a DynoJet and you'll get it; but a 10hp gain on that machine is the same as a 10hp gain on SD's. In my experience, a 75-85hp loss on a manual transmission with an independent rear, and 65lb/28" wheels at this power level is about right so you're still in the neighborhood if you get that a/f out of the weeds. Shoot me a PM if you have any other questions!

The octane point that Ken brought up is another good one. When you go to put premium in your tank, if the person before you got 87, there can still be from 1-3 gallons of 87 in the hose depending on where the mixing valve is. So if the last time you filled up was say 5gallons, 3 of them could of been 87 giving you a total octane of only 89 for that fillup. When tuning higher HP pump gas cars this becomes critical as you can melt a motor due to bad gas at the pump when there is no knock sensor to save it or if the retard doesn't come in quick enough. I always tell people to completely drain and fill their tanks every time so you know that 90% of the fuel will always be 93oct (as long as the right fuel is in the right tank at the station). Also sticking to the same station is a good practice so you know you are always getting the same blend of fuel.
But your biggest issue was your a/f being WAY too rich.

Thanks for the input guys. From day one I have always used Shell 93 octane gas. The only other person who put fuel in my tank was someone in Canada if you get my drift. I know that going to another dyno proves nothing so I won't do that just to see a better hp number. Like I said before, my peak torque was 340 @4600. Torque at peak hp was 293. I will do a fuse pull, oil change and run it hard next spring and attend another dyno day for three pulls and see what happens.

Kens Dyno Graph
Here is a scan of my dyno graph guys, I would like to see other stock ish SS for comparison, seems like a lot of variation car to car......
You can really see the torque managment below 3k rpms.....yes even the manuals have torque management built into the ECM......well until I get in there and fix it ![]() Ken

Wow is that a stock tune..... I thought the L99s had a lot of torqe management below 3k rpms.....yours looks almost exactly like mine.....just slightly less power. Hmmmm

Here is my dyno graph for comparison. LS3, only mod is a New Era intake tube.
Notice how rich it is at idle compared to the others, what's up with that?

They pretty much all seem to be rich on idle and lean out to around 11.5 or so. Even on my graph.

GMs typically idle rich. also remember we are measuring the AFR after the cats at the tailpipe, which is not the best way. Best way is right off the manifolds for most accurate fuel readings.
I am curious to see what it will read with my wideband before the cats.... I'll find out next spring I guess..... Ken
