Vararam and Diablosport Predator Track Tested!

Right before SEMA we had a chance to take a few of our cars to a track rental at Maryland International Raceway. We had just received our evaluation version of the new Varram intake, and since they supposedly do their best work at the track, it seemed like the perfect time to do some real world testing. For the heck of it, we also brought along our new shop Mustang 5.0L A6 Convertible to compare (more on that later).

About the Test Car-

Test car is my wifes 2010 RJT L99 2SS/RS Camaro. Car is stock except for a pair of prototype high flow cats, and a Kooks 2.5" "Street Sleeper" exhaust.

Test was done in the following order-

- Run Car Stock (with exception of high flow cats and exhuast noted above)
- Load Diablo 93 Octane canned tune, and run again
- Install Vararam, leave tune installed, and run again

Below, are the results for the best run in each setup.

As you can see, the Predator made the car about two tenths faster, and 1.5 mph faster. The Vararam made the car another over two tenths, and two MPH faster. The car was hot lapped because we were short time, and traction was not the best. We also did no learning time like Vararam recommends, and the canned Diablo tune is obviously not optimized for the VR.

I feel that if cool, on a day with better traction, this car can run mid 12's all day. While I have seen Vararam's claims, I was surpised the gains were as good as they were. Normally an intake does not show up on time sheets. Given the results, it leads me to think it is adding about 15-20 rwhp once the car is moving. Not bad for bolt on exhaust, intake, and canned tune! Headers might put the car in the low 12's!

For anyone looking for the Vararam, check out the the sale section for an intro sale we will be running on these.

As for that A6 Mustang Convertible, bone stock, it had a best time of 13.006 @ 109.989. I like anything that is fast, and we have always had a GM slant with our company, but the new 5.0L is the real deal guys.

Some pictures-

Good to see a Camaro unit getting used before the tracks shut down.

You can see how the system is making its power under the curve, from the 60ft through to the 1/8th mile and then on to the 1/4mile.

You are +2.49mph in the 1/8th mile alone, in a heavy ,blunt 12 sec car.

THAT IS POWER!

Looks pretty accurate and what one should expect with those mods.
13.1 - stock
12.9 - tuned
12.7 - tuned with intake

I ran 12.70 at 109.24, 190 60ft with just the Vararam last week. My car had 3k miles. The weather was great.

I wanted to bump this because I have had a lot of people asking me how the Vararam does.

I ran 12.80 with kooks headers and highflow cats(from Maryland Speed of course), muffler delete, LMR intake, and HEAVY factory reproductions 22" wheels with the STOCK tune. Spinning my @$$ off with the cheap General Exclaim tires I have.

yeah....there's a lot of time made up at the 60ft and how quick the engine 'lights off'...traction will help. good times on the intake+tune guys.

Very nice to see this test done the way y'all did it... To most of us track #s are more important than dyno #s.... What's so special about sayin you put down 525rwhp if the guy putting down 500rwhp is spanking you in the 1320? If y'all get back out there it be cool to see the diff between the CAI w/ race scoop VS. the VR

I mean if your gonna boast about your dyno numbers by putting them in your sig, that's fine, but at least also run your car down the track.

I've hot a question though... With a canned tune this car undoubtedly made a decent gain... How much more of a gain do y'all think a dyno tune would hold?

I had some people asking...the Diablosport Intune or Trinity both have the same results as the Predator...and NOW include transmission tuning also for the A6.

Was this testing done with a "tune" or "no tune" model of the Vararam?

This is what I want to know also. If this was the non-tune version, then the tuned version with a custom tune would be even that much better.

So 0.1 faster and 1-2mph is the real deal? Its faster, but not by much as the fanboys say. Its lighter with better gearing and smaller/lighter wheels, it has to be faster right? Seems very close to me and I dont see it as the real deal at all.

My stock 1LE has more MPH than this Mustang...
