Anyone with P0171 code with maggie headers and cai

I have a maggie with kooks long tube headers, cai, and noweeds diverters. I have 2400 milles on the car since all parts were installed and 6500 miles total. I keep throwing P0171 Lean bank 1 code and My tuner (livernois) suggested swapping o2 sensors from one side to the other to check for bad sensor.....well the code came back on the same bank so that looks to not be the answer. I have sprayed carb spray all around my engine bay and idle is not affected. I am suppose to be data logging for them for tune but they say that the tune has been the same so the light should have come on quickly after install if the tune was the cause. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Did it say "shifted" lean bank one by any chance? My car threw a similar code a few times and Ted said it was something to do with the headers. He had to shut that code off. It was harmless. I dragged the car with that code thrown. It may be the same one. I just don't remember, sorry.

On the current device it just shows the code P0171 but on autozone it just said "lean bank 1" So I dont know. I hope it is harmless but until it goes away it is annoying the shit out of me. Ask ted what code it was he turned off for ya. I am just lost here.

Did you try cleaning the MAF?

I'll ask Ted tomorrow but I doubt he'll remember what code it was. That was last year. I could swear thats the same code that I was throwing. But min was vety intermittent. Like 3 or 4 times in 6 months.

Got me. Who knows why this weird crap happens. I just pluged in my obd 2 reader in the camaro and it read 4 codes but the car showed no light. WTF. I hope they were old codes still on the reader. I got the cel I mentioned above with 1k after the blower.

cleared the code, cleaned the maf, let dry and reinstalled. Started car up P0171 comes again! wHAT THE HELEL!!

Try checking your header bolts and any exhaust leak before your 1st O2 sensor. Had the same code come up and that was my problem. It sometimes don't take much. :(

I just noticed as well that When holding rpms at 1400 my car is putting or pooting not constantly but every 2 seconds or so. I am about to post a vid of it with diverters open to hear it better

Thanks I will try the header bolts. I already checked everything underneath when I swapped o2 sensors. So I will try the actual bolts. Lord knows they are a bitch to get to!

could be exhaust I guess I notice that the light comes on mostly when I start or rev the car to high rpms so maybe its leaking. Also my rev with diverters open seems like its running out of sound toward higher rpms but I just thought that was loss of back pressure.

I just tightend header bolts bank 1. they were all pretty tight though about to take pictures of spark plugs of each cylinder

I have the same code coming up on my car. I know I have a small header leak right at the head. Hopefully this is the problem. I was told to torque my header bolts to 18ftlbs when I installed them. Doesn't seem like much but that advice came from a quality builder. Car is going into the shop for the winter soon and will get some much deserved TLC.

Here are several possibilities of problems that can cause the code to be thrown.

If you haven't already, try disconnecting the battery cable for about ten minutes to allow the trims to reset. Clear the code and then restart.
Are you able to do any logging yet?

about to do it this pm. I have tried disconnecting battery as well last time and it came back on. Good reading. It does say it can be caused by misfire. the fact that the car is pooting when holding rpms make me think something is not right.

I can tell you I unplugged the maf sensor wire and the car died

well some are on the right track here. that code is thown when it is having to put extra fuel in the bank. the 171,172,173,174 codes are the codes for what the computer thinks it is having to add or subtract to much fuel to get it back to 14.68 AFR. if you had a scanner to see the LTFT and STFT it would show you if your having issues with just a 02 or if it is truly a bank fueling more or less. usually, and i say that as "USUALLY" that code is thrown when the tune is just off. this is usually seen after a car has been modded and the tuner did adj the maf table right and the LTFTs are just way off and then that code will be thrown....What you really need to do is get your LTFTs for both banks and look at them and see what they are doing. at idle, cruise, mild throttle. and see if you do truly have a "leak" or "issue" on bank one

I did the idle data log with ac on and off. Going to a game and then will do the rpm and wot data logs when I get back. I am using an hp tuner for logging anyway to save screen shots or post information. I would have to be told what you want to see as I have no idea what anything means I am just recording it. I can tell you when reving and sometimes at idle so far I see the ltft in red on occasion and it has trouble returning to blue it is red at times when tieh rtft is blue.

I strongly recommend that you DO NOT do a WOT run with a supercharged engine that is throwing a P0171 code until you can be 100% certain that a dangerously lean condition does not truly exist. The engine could be severely damaged. Idle, mixed stop and go driving, and cruise logs yes, but No WOT run until you have the tuner look at those logs FIRST.

FT should not go into the red. log LTFT and STFT and IPW (injector info) make sure KR is rec also and your O2s are recording.

Good point I could be playing with fire. I did however take all bank 1 plugs out 1357 and all were white/tan with 2500 miles on them. Nothing appeared burnt or smashed so I guess that is good considering the car is running lean.

When first starting the car idle with ac off.

KR all blue no number below it

Advance 8.5 blue

TPS% 20 blue

injector 1
o2 1
o2 2
injector 2 ( all 4 of these had blue but no numbers below as it didnt appear to record any of them)

LTB1% 16.4 in red (Stayed that way for about 45 seconds then dropped to 9.4)

STB1 -7.0 blue

STB2 -8.6 blue

LTB2% 13.3 blue (stayed that way for about 45 seconds then dropped to 5.5)
