Realistically we had 6 separate injection moulds made in order to build these which cost over $30,000 not even counting the actual material required to actually build the units. The $189 cost is more than fair considering our investment, not going to see these for less than that until the moulds are paid off which will most likely take years.

I have a few vendors out in the IL area who are working on prototypes right now and have guarenteed a price under $100.00 once they have made all the final touches.

30K for injection molds? That's outrageously expensive, but I guess if you are trying to mass produce these... until you get your return on investment, customers are going to incur some of the 30K you put down.

I can totally understand the reasoning behind what jonathan is saying about having to charge$ 190 due to r&d costs incurred. But personally, I just can't justify spending that right now. And even if I was going to, I would want to get the tinted ones and I am DEFINITELY not spending the extra 30 (I think not sure exactly). If it was$ 190 for the tinted I would consider it. For now I will wait and see what other options become available.

Just my 2 cents on the matter...

Not sure when the last time you invested in tooling was but $5K per injection mold is industry standard. So $5K x 6 molds= $30K

Tinted lenses are $22.50

If you feel that is too high for tint you can apply a standard reverse light tint overlay to these.

Sorry, like I said I wasn't sure on the upgrade price, couldn't remember for sure. But what I was really getting at is the high price keeps me from getting this now. I have other mods that need to be finished and am planning CAI in the spring. So its hard to justify shelling out$ 190 for reverse light right now. Maybe ill get them next year for the holidays....but if they were say $120 with tint included, i'd be logging in to paypal right now...

Lol. I did say that. What I meant was...if there was a chance of me buying them@ 190, that chance went out the window as soon as I saw they were 212.50 with tinted...the sane part of me says don't buy until it is cheaper or I have more money to spare. So end result:

Pay $212.50 - never
Pay $190 -maybe sometime next holiday season
Pay $120 - buy em today

+1

$120.00 sounds reasonable to me. I just hate it when everyone takes advantage of the consumer. And it seems like a lot of people out there offering body/lighting mods are doing just that.

Justin - any pulse mod issues with the reverse LED's? Like the premature (fast) burnout of the P13 LED DRL's?

Also - can I assume the factory wire harness connector is used?

And last - the clear lens will emit a 'brighter' white light vs. the tinted one in output (comment).
Thanks...

No Pulse Width Signal, we went through it with an o-scope and its clean power

Correct, its plug and play with the factory plug. This is where more cost came in on our end. We had to make moulds of the factory plugs so that everything will plug right in and there would be no need for cutting or splicing.

The clear lens will naturally put out more light than tinted (similar to if you put tint over your existing reverse lights) but even the tinted version is a HUGE improvement over the factory reverse lights

I ordered mine last night along with painted side markers. I guess the bottom line is if you can't afford to pay a retail price for something that is aftermarket, leave your car stock.

You guys play rough :-)

These are one of the few mods that I really want...seem a bit steep, but I can fully understand. I have looked into tooling for musical instrument parts in the past and nixed my big ideas

My favorite AAC product is the painted sidemarkers and the led reverse lamps come in second along with my halo fogs which come in third

How tricky was it reinstalling the bumper after you hooked up the lights? Pretty easy? Do I really need another person or can I do it myself. Just waiting for help...might pull the trigger and install this by myself.

Ok about to start...one last question. To anybody who has done it...do you have to pop out the side markers before pulling the bumper off?
