It is a tank. 4100# plus. My 1999 Trans Am convertible with a LS1 has a 3400# curb weight.

The Trans Am also didn't have half the support bracing or other advancements they somehow packed into this car. Not saying one is better than the other, but.....

The T/A is made of plastic or most of it is. I have drove both the new camaro and the old T/A LS1 aluminum corvette car. Let's put it like this.. the old T/A is just or more quick than the new camaro. I am actually not impressed with the power / weight ratio of the new camaro.

To each his own, I guess. The car is superior in most ways to all F-bodies that came before it. Unfortunately weight is not one of them. But they chose to make this 5th generation far more solid and refined a Camaro than ever before...in some cases that meant added weight. Personally, I think it was a worthy trade off.

BUT....that's what the aftermarket is for for the performance junkie!

True about the 4th gen F bodies. Today's LS3 if placed in a 4th gen '02 SS without adding structural integrity and heavy suspension mods would make it highly unstable. It's an almost equal standoff between the lighter '02 SS LS1 and the heavier '10 SS LS3 in straightline performance. The additional HP makes up for the added weight, but dosen't take it any quantum leap ahead of it's predecesor in speed. Added weight cancels out the added HP. However, the '10 SS as it is I feel has alot more room to grow for additional HP without making it unstable unlike it's earlier 4th gen cousin. I feel it can quite easily take on another 150 HP without any further mods to even get near that level of the '02 Camaro SS LS1 where it gets all bendy and twisty and changes lanes on you. I've seen modded 10's with 1000HP +/-, that can't be done on the 1st-4th gens and have any quality ride IMO.

Has anyone heard the 'standard' or expected build and deliver time for the '11 Vert? New member to Camaro5 and my dealer should drop my order this Thursday. I'm not sure how I'll do with the wait. Patience is not a strength of mine.
