header install

Gettin ready to get a set of headers...lookin like kooks or ARH. Any special tools needed for install or any tips to make it go easier? Only using jack stands, no lift but thats all I have.

Just normal hand tools. The last time I installed headers I bought some 8-stage bolts so I did not have to worry about the bolts coming loose.

Good luck.

There are some install threads on here, getting ready to do mine as well.

Best write-up I've seen:

Sounds like the main thing you need is a helping hand for the oil dipstick and headers. Also, you're jackstands should be heavy duty type to get the car a couple feet off the ground. The jack and stands I have don't go this high though.

I have quotes to have them installed, but considering DIY so I can use the install money to get more tools.

The hardest part I found was getting the O2 sensors to release behind the top of the engine, once I finally got those darn things delt with the rest went really good.
Take your time, and enjoy getting to know your car.

For my headers, one bolt for the dipstick (make sure you locate where it goes before you pull it out. That hole is a bear to find), 6 bolts on each manifold, and 4 bolts for the catback connections. I highly recommend getting an o2 sensor socket and some penetrating oil for the o2 sensors. They are a bear to get off and if you break one its another 50+ dollars (total of 4). If the headers do not come with 2 O2 extender wires for the front 2 o2 sensors, you will need those also. I also hear ARH headers you may have to disconnect the steering knuckle but with Kooks and OBX, didnt have too. Took me 3 hours with a friend really taking our time. 2nd set of hands will be real helpful.

For the wires if not included with the headers:
