NEW SHIFTER FOR AUTOMATICS FROM CFD

Hi everyone.

Here is the new shifter for us auto guys. It allows the use of most aftermarket knobs for manual transmissions such as t-handles or custom balls. Now you have a huge selection of handles to choose from.

The list price on these will be $169.00 and come in a brushed or polished finish.

As always I am having an introductory offer for those interested, for the month of October the price will be $149.00 shipped. I will start a list for those who are interested. I will start machining on Monday and should start having them ready to ship by the weeks end

There is more info and pics here. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=309726

Hi everyone.

The installation is quite simple and goes as follows.

Remove stock handle, slide supplied o-ring to the base of the shifter shaft. (The o-ring, in it's proper location, can be seen in the photo below.) put a small amount of lube (grease of your choice) on the back side of the black ramp. This is the pointed plastic piece on the top of the shifter ( as seen in the photo) slide the new shifter on the shaft and secure with the supplied mounting screw and tighten.

There are a couple of things to take note of. Right below the plastic ramp the shaft has two notches on it. These are stamped or broached and because of it there is a small raised portion at the bottom of the notch. You can do one of two things, you can install the new shifter and with the slightest amount of wiggling and downward force it will go on without much difficulty. Avoid twisting as the black plastic ramp can be damaged. Once past this spot it will move freely. You could slightly dress the area with a file or piece of sandpaper to relieve the high spot. I would suggest you try it and if it is a little tight then address it. Once installed once it becomes easier as the high spot is relived. Each shifter has been installed on a new factory shifter that was not altered so you should have no problems. I could have made the hole larger but then when sitting on the shaft at it's mounting position it would be sloppy and put unwanted stress on the threads.

The threads are a weak area so take extra care as not to cross thread or strip them.

For those who are using t-handles there are several shims which will go on the mounting stud. By trying different shims or shim combo's you can get quite a bit of adjustment. My t-handle installed with my preference to alignment on every test shifter with these shims. I am working on another idea that will retrofit the shims, we'll see how that goes, lol.

When tightening the handle or ball DO NOT TIGHTEN IT USING THE MOUNTING SCREW/THREADS AS AN ANCHOR. It is best to install the knob before you install the shifter. Hold the base securely in your hand and tighten or more preferably insert a 7/32 allen wrench in the center hole and hold the mounting stud while tightening the handle. The main thing is take care not to damage the threads on the shifter shaft.

The weak link on these shifters is the threads for the mounting screw. There are only a few threads so extra care should be taken not to cross thread or strip them.

If there are any questions I can clarify as needed.

Not necessarily. It will work with the stock bezel. If you notice in the pictures, some have a groove and some do not. The groove is to keep the boot in place, the ones without the groove are for use with the stock bezel. I'll see if I can dig up a picture of it installed with the bezel.

The shifters are not chrome but are polished (or brushed) aluminum.

I usually do not supply the handles/knobs. The T-handles can be purchased at almost any speed shop or auto parts store such as PepBoys. Autozone, Advanced Auto Parts etc.

Hi everyone.

Had a productive day machining the shifters. It looks like I will have a handful ready to ship in a couple of days and more ready every few days as needed.

Here is a list, as shifters are completed I will start at the top and work down.

The fastest and easiest way to process orders is to pm me your e- mail address, finish choice and with or without groove. When the shifter is finished I will send an invoice via Paypal.

The shifters do not come in black but it may be a possibility. The boot can be purchased from the dealer or numerous vendors on here and I sometimes have them as well.

UPDATE !!!

The list has been updated and it seems that I will start shipping on Thursday. I'll PM everyone when invoices are being sent and the shifters are ready to ship.
