Stripe Opinion and RS Package Question

So I'm thinking about getting CGM Rally Stripes on an IOM 2SS. I just wanted to get an opinion on how people think that would look. I am torn between the CGM and Black Rally Stripes. Also I may do this through the factory so not sure if I should do that (I have seen the pics from the detriot auto show). Also would the car look ok without having the stripes on the roof. Now for the RS Question. I haven't really seen the differences it adds besides the halo lights. Is this package worth getting with the 2SS and if anyone could post pics of stock look vs rs look.

Thanks!
-Aaron

Don't worry about the stripes on the roof. They have never been on the roof for a true SS car. People just get them confused with the Shelby Mustang stripes and think that they should go on the roof. THERE SHOULD NOT BE STRIPES ON THE ROOF.

As far as the RS package, you also get tinted taillights, painted roof ditch moldings instead of the black strips, and as long as you didnt get the polished wheel upgrade, you will get special midnight silver painted 20"s on it. I personally dont care for the wheels so I will get the polished, I basically want the rs package for the HID's.

Yea but wouldn't it be cheaper to get all that added extra vs. the package...I mean HID's can't be but so expensive and the rims...not so worried about them and the roof ditch is painted on the 2SS...so all that is left is the taillights...just seems like it is kind of pointless to get with the 2SS
and seems it would be cheaper to get seperate...

These HIDs can run up to $600 a piece by themselves. Dual-beam HIDs are rare, and these use some sort of lens manipulation to get High and Low beams out of a single HID bulb. The RS package is definitely a good deal on all trims, imo.

I might be wrong but I believe the roof ditch is pained ONLY with the RS, is it not? 2SS will still be black w/out the RS option.

Go with white rally stripes on IOM.

With the IOM being such a bright, bold color, I would go for maximum contrast from the stripes - black, not CGM or white as Hylton suggests.

EDIT: I meant not CGM, or choose the white as Hylton suggests for high contrast.

See the two black lines extending from front to back on the roof just above the door line? Without the RS package, those will be black on all colors.

AirboyzT, the car looks great either way. If you do not go with the RS package you can always get things painted later if you feel you want the change. If you do not go with the RS package the black trim will match the shark fin and the tires. It looks great either way.

The package does add the HID lights which in previous threads discussed could end up costing you much more to add them later. These lights are rather expensive to add from third party. You might be able to cut corners to lessen the cost, but others seem to agree it will be sub par and not woth the future investment. If you want them the least costly way to get them is the RS package.

I'm in the same place. Honestly the only thing that's that important in the rs package is the HIDs but then It becomes the 1200 for headlights because the rest I could care either way

I think IOM with CGM stripes would look great. That's one of the color combo's I'm considering for my own car. Only difference will be that I'm going to paint my stripes. Look at pics of the convertible concept. Very similar.

I'm thinking CGM or Black. CGM would be closer to the convertible concept if you like the look... the detroit pictures are making me lean to CGM for sure and Im' getting the RS package too for the extras included, well worth the price IMO...

I think IOM would look better with either black or white stripes. CGM just won't give you enough contrast as others have said. Also, which stripes are going to be offered from the factory might impact your decision if you want them factory installed. I am going with the RS package because I want those extras from the factory, not aftermarket. There have been several threads that discussed the HIDs and being able to get a reliably functioning aftermarket set that fits nicely in the car. For me, the stock headlights just don't cut it on this car.

I have done the HID aftermarket upgrade and the cost of just low beams and the ballasts was 350$. To get the hi and low beams it would of cost $550. But that was with the stock lenses. Who knows what it would cost with new lenses. Just go with the RS package and save yourself the headache.

Yes, the SS lettering will be in red to denote the RS option. Non-RS will have white letters (like the silver one pictured above)

After looking at the IOM Convertable Concept I think I like these stripes better. Would I be better off getting them Custom vinyl or painted on and where would I go to get this done. Also The rims on this concept, are they going to be available...I like the orange ring on them.
Thanks!

I'm thinking of either a white or yellow SS with the rally stripes. I hate that the only factory-applied stripes are white or CGM... Because it seems to me the factory stripe application is going to be more consistent as an automated process, while the dealership-applied stripes will be more of a manual process. And I'm guessing that the skill of the dealership technician applying the stripes will come into play as well.

Bottom line - the stripes have to be applied exactly centered, exactly parallel to each other, and each exactly the same as the other front to back - if the stripes are evenly minutely off, it would drive me absolutely crazy...

So that said, I'm really ticked off that you can't have black stripes installed at the factory. Am I crazy? Is there a foolproof dealer installation process that guarantees you won't be able to tell if they were factory or dealer applied?

Definitely painted would be better than custom vinyl.

first, the concept convertible is Hugger Orange, not IOM. i believe you should have them painted as opposed to vinyl & you would go to any paint shop you trust to get that done. the wheels are not available to buy.

i figure the RS pk. is worth the headlights alone. Dual beam hid lights can either have 2 separate gas chambers that burn in a single bulb, or some actually have a linear actuator that moves the bulb in/out when switching between low/high beams. so, yes expensive for sure.

i wonder what setup the camaro's headlights have?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linear_actuator if you're wondering.
