Drove a Challenger RT Last Night...Loved the Throaty Exhaust...

Okay, please don't stone me.

Just saying, last night I was driving a 6-speed Challenger RT. Holy crap, that thing sounded mean. Much meaner than the 6-speed SS, even though it didn't have the same get-up-and-go.

I might also add, I am a little surprised at how differently the automatics sound in both the Challenger and Camaro, both sound weak IMO.

Anyone else know what I'm talking about? I'm leaning more towards buying the SS, but I am curious how to get that nice throaty rumble the RT produced.

First mod needs to be the exhaust on the Camaro SS. Some guys like the sound of the stock exhaust, but most find it way to quiet for a muscle car.

I love telling people the story about the 2010 Camaro SS owner revving his motor at a car show trying to impress the crowd. The crowd was standing there with this look like "thats it." The stock exhaust is far from impressive sounding.

But with some long tubes the Camaro SS sound like pure heaven.

Still the best bang-for-$38 you'll find. And you can swap it over into your Challenger!

I have only seen a couple of RT Challengers and they were very quiet compared to our stock SS's.

Maybe they were automatics? The first one I test drive was auto and per my 15yr old girl sounded like a kitten (compared to SS that sounded like a lion, LOL -- She was there when I drove the SS, 6-speed). Then we drove the 6-speed and holy crap it was crazy throaty. My wife, 15yr old and myself were all amazed with the mean sounds.

I know the automatic SS's also sound more mellow. Not sure why though.

The Camaro exhaust really opens up over time. Mine started to sound throatier at 5K than it did when new.

The automatic SS's mufflers are designed a little differently to deal with the AFM/DOD noises. The automatic SS also has an additional resonator. This makes the Automatic SS really quiet.

The dodge still looks like that high school beauty you run into at your twentieth-year reunion: it's her, but somehow........she's........bloated?

My exhaust is plenty throaty when I get on the gas. Also, adding a CAI makes it sound a bit louder in cabin due to the removal of sound-deadening resonators on the intake side. My Wife claims the exhaust is also louder with the CAI, It did sound pretty loud in the garage

Also if you want it even louder, fold down your rear seats. $0 mod!

I didn't hear what your hearing in the challengers I've ran across. I think in stock form the mustang has us all beat in the sound mean department. I heard a 5.0l the other day and that thing sounds awesome. No need for aftermarket exhaust there. After spending $1,800 mine sounds awesome too.

I drove an R/T as well. The manual transmission shifts way smoother than the SS, which is strange because both M6's are made by Tremec in the same Mexican plant. Anyways, the get up and go was simply not there. It really felt slow compared to my SS. The SRT8 would be a closer match.
