That conversion would be useless just for a small amount.of HP. Why didn't you just get a M6 from the start?

sigh....

The original poster has an l99 with DOD correct?

He said he plans on doing a cam, bolt-ons, and a supercharger.

You think those great DOD lifters are going to be up to that?

I'm going to go with no.

ls3 conversion isn't for horsepower.... it's to get rid of the stupid (and weak) lifters

and it's a lot cheaper/easier to do an ls3 conversion on an auto, than it is to do a 6l80e swap on a ls3 car

you would get somewhere in between, because you would still get the drivetrain loss of an automatic, but would have an ls3

pretty much once its converted to an ls3, its pretty much indentical so yea you'd be looking at LS3 packages but remember you'r still going to get the drivetrain loss of an Auto, as many camaro LS3 packages already assume its a manuel transmission car so expect to lose around 5 percent or more from whatever claimed horsepower gains the package will give.

Our shop car got the conversion at like 700 miles. We upgraded to ARP head studs and a small cam with the 3 bolt timing gear - for Forced induction in the future.

Just the conversion gained 60rwhp. Well worth it.

Anyone have more info on how one would go about the LS3 Conversion Me and Gavros both want to do the LS3 conversion. I don't plan on supercharging because theres not need for that much power around here (gavros is crazy ) but i still want to do the conversion.
thanks!

just turn of DOD,
and tell your friends you have an ls3.
buy them beer, with your savings,
and they will be too loaded to call out your ghost-mod, rofl.

All you have to do is buy a cam along with LS7 lifters, lifter trays/buckets, LS2 valley cover and LS3 front cover. While you are at it get some better valve springs too.

There are a few companies that sell the AFM/DOD delete kits and the full LS3 conversions that include the head gaskets, head bolts and cam bolt.

Last I checked here at ADM Perf Andy charged close to $3500 total conversion including parts and labor and cam and valve springs and tune. Several L-99 cars base lined at about 330 rwhp bone stock. With conversion plus ADM CAI, headers, and exhaust, tune the result was out the door at 435 rwhp. Another benefit doing the conversion is the resulting increase in redline to 6800 from 6200 and with a cam that takes advantage. The tune will also adjust the shift points to cam along with Torque Mgt.

There are some additional cam and gear parts needed that are not mentioned in the link to thunder racing. ADM and LPE both do more than just slide in the cam wheras other shops do just the minimum because it adds one hour to the install.

That is the Livernois Motorsports conversion (great shop too BTW). That package comes with LT headers which is why it is a bit more than a LS3 conversion alone. If you are doing this you should go with LT headers though. If you already have headers I'm sure the will work with you on a custom package.

http://www.livernoismotorsports.com/...t.phtml?p=1958

My car has this package with their 2c cam and is putting down 440 RWHP.

We are offering a conversion kit as well as HP packages as well. We have been making LSx engines faster reliably for a few years now and look forward to working with some of you.

Lifter choice needs to be addressed when you are going to a high performance cam and springs. If all you are doing is staying the same then the LS7 lifters are more than likely going to be fine, but they see their fair share of failures when going to aftermarket cam and spring packages.

We rebuild engines all the time and see what happens. The first thing to go is the pin will come out of the wheel. Then all heck breaks loose and its just a matter of being lucky to not lose the entire bottom end.

If your going to be swapping things out then it makes sense to look at the big picture. ported TB, long tubes, cat back.. all bolt-ons that help maximize things

hahaha np .. I think in a few years I'll find a shop to do the conversion kit with the cam by then I'll prob have headers already so it wouldn't be over 2 grand to do the internals of the engine and I'll be happy with 100 more hp to the wheels

I just couldn't get the L99 to run the way I wanted running boost with my Kenne Bell. I had good numbers but it had a slight stutter when you mashed the throttle at times
So I did /LS3 conversion W/ LS9 cam/comp springs and tune.
The way to go for A6, otherwise you will have to go with stall converter for street.
It runs like a everyday driver at idle. It no longer stutters when you mash the throttle.
I wanted to run it but the track where I live is shut down until next March.
Bummer.
I was running 10lbs of boost before cam now it's running 8lbs without pulley change.
Plus I picked up HP. I had 489 before now have 565 doing conversion and cam

I too had to go with the LS3 conversion. With it we picked up close to 100 rwhp and almost .5 in the 1/4 with 6-7 mph. And I least now I know the engine is as fragile.
