V6 Camaro not worth it?

Every time I mention getting a V6 Camaro, everyone tells me it's not worth it. I'm not looking to race it or anything. I'm a college student, so I'm on a bit of a budget and was looking to maybe get a 2LT. Why do people bash the V6 Camaro?

You should buy what you want, not what everyone else thinks you should buy. If you are happy with the 6 cylinder, then, buy George you should get it.

Well Ant, they probably don't realize that this V6 happens to be pumping out 300+ HP while still offering great fuel economy. At the end of the day, get what you want. It's your car and your money.

Not worth it? What else on the market beats it for that price point? Many people say "v8 or nothin'" so of course it's "not worth it" to them. But to anyone who wants a solid performing car with amazing looks and just all around solid vehicle, I say go for it.

Get what you want and be happy with it. I plan on getting the V6 as well. I can afford the V8 but I really love the idea of the lighter V6 with better fuel economy.

buy the v-6. screw everyone else. its your money, its your car. a lot of the v-6 bashers are those that are stuck in the mentality of "if its not a v-8, its not a muscle car" or "if its not a manual, its not a real car"

buy what you want and what you can afford. to hell with the naysayers.

+1 to what everybody else has said.

i'm willing to bet everyone who's saying it ain't worth it don't really know much about it. you should check out this thread. it's got a bunch of compelling arguments on buying the V6.

You may end up being a little smarter than those guys in the end anyway. The V8 would be nice..........but let's consider insurance, age of driver, what are gases prices gonig to be in the next 4-5 yrs while you are making payments. This car is going to turn heads on the outside alone by it's looks.

It doesn't look like too many on here are bashing your V6 so in the end they aren't making your payments, paying on the insurance or buying your gas. My brother told me I needed to get the V8 but I looked at several things and I can afford it but I really think the V6 will have enough power to drive me 12 miles to work and back and if he isn't going to pay the extra $6000.00 or so to get it the way I want it then he can go over and sit in a corner and pout!!!!

Ok guys. I have a 2007 4.0 Mustang Pony Package at 220hp. Had I known that in 2010 I could get a V6 Camaro for the same price with a lot of options (because i got the pony package) I would have waited. And let me tell you. I am a Ford Loyalist and mustang loyalist. That being said the V6 camaro is gonna be the best bang for your buck.

I have driven a V6 challenger and its a heavy idiotic machine at 250hp. It has no pick up. So anyone driving a v6 camaro will be beating 4.0 stangs and challengers flat out.

Like i said im a Mustang lover. I love the way the new 2010 looks however......the mustang Gt still will have 300hp while the camaro for less money and a v6 with more options will be what? 25k? 27k loaded? The choice is obvious.

If i wasnt underneat on the mustang i would be trading it in for a v6 camaro.

The only thing that would change my mind is if Ford puts the new 3.5L ecoboost v6 355hp engine in the mustang. But that will be at best 2011.

So my friend......get your v6 camaro and love it.....for 25k you will have more options than my mustang with more power......and you will beat me off the line every time.

Who said it's not worth it?!?!?!

I'll ban'em!!!!

There's NOTHING that can offer the same bang-for-your buck as the V6 Camaro. If you want it, go for it. It's PLENTY worth it.

I agree with everyone else, buy what YOU want, its your money, your tastes, not anyone else I get the same response from everyone when I tell then I want the V6. One of my friends says "just get the SS, when your buying a new car $7,000 isn't a lot, grow a pair." Well for a college student $7,000 more for an SS PLUS the insurance increase is a lot. I think the Lt is a great bargain and no slouch in the performance sector.

I'm getting the V6, screw what everyone says. I'm a college student and I don't plan on joining NASCAR anytime soon, so I don't need a V8. Thanks guys.

P.S.: What is the convenience and connectivity package?

Bluetooth, USB, homelink, remote start, steering-wheel radio controls, etc, etc...the bells and whistles.
But if you're getting a 2LT, like you said in another thread -- you get all that standard.

There isn't a thing in the world wrong with that Direct 6 engine! Initially, I was thinking that was the route I was going to go. However, I really wanted more of the performance stuff the SS's have to offer. That being said, I still find myself questioning my decision, thinking about all the money I'd save getting the V6, and still having what promises to be, "The car of the year!"

I'll be getting a 1LT/SRJ car. I thought for a second about getting the V8, but then I remembered that when I had my V8 car (a 1986 Camaro IROC 5-speed) the things I enjoyed/miss most weren't being the fastest guy on the block, but the sound and the look and the driving experience of a low to the ground, tuned handling car. That's why the most expensive mods going into my Camaro will be exhaust and suspension. The only other thing I'll be doing is a CAI. That way I get the sound (and I don't understand all the naysayers who don't like the sound of this car - I think it sounds great) and the look, without having the initial price, the gas price, or the insurance price.

In the end, its all about whats important to you.

And if you have time to wait before you order, do. Drive the V6, then drive the V8. Wait a week, then drive the V6 again. Then decide if the price jump is worth it, or if the 304 horses will be enough for you.
- Xanthos

P.S. - The reason I say wait a week before driving the V6 again is because obviously the V8 will eclipse the V6. If you wait a little while, then drive the V6 again, it will more readily enable you to decide if the V6's power/handling is good enough for you, after weighing the things like fuel economy, initial price, and insurance costs, or if you want to step it up to the V8.

I'm a college student myself, so I'm in this same boat. This car is a stretch for me in many ways - in cost, size, everything. All the other cars I'm considering are significantly cheaper and smaller. I'm willing to stretch for the Camaro because of the insane performance, looks, RWD, and all the other things that make it so special. So on one hand, if I'm going to stretch, why not go all the way for the intoxicating 426 hp and V8 rumble? On the other, why not go for the v6, save a ton of money on purchase price, finance expenses, insurance, and gas, and put that money into Brembos, suspension upgrades, and the few engine mods the CARB jerks will let me get away with to make myself a nice canyon carver? Good thing I have a while to sort this all out.

I think that you are making the smartest choice for you. The 6cyl Camaro is a real performance bargan. When the concept first came out I was all V8 or nothing, but after seeing the 6cyl in action and seeing how much power it has. I'd almost consider it myself. I'm still getting the V8, I'm old enough to not worry too much about insurance gouging and the gas mileage isn't really a factor in my decision. I think you will be very happy with the 6 and it will probably run circles around those guys who tell you that you need to get the 8.
