The V-6 gets 2.6% more horsepower (312 vs. 304) in the Camaro than the CTS based upon better intake and exhaust. Use the same factor and the LSA in the Z28 will have 570 horsepower.

i'm sayin they stay at 556 to stay competative with the gt500, but as the pony war continues, they will probably one up each other on a fairly regular basis

OK, I am bracing for the backlash, but 600 HP is a very silly amount of power for a street car.

Anything more than the snakes... We have a weight disadvantage and more raw HP will help make up a little of the difference

LSA for Z28

A buddy of mine works at GM's Milford Proving Grounds and tells me it's going to have the LSA engine. He works on engines so I think this information is quite reliable. I didn't ask him how much power, but I would guess at least 556HP.

I believe that It will have more than 556, but to push it into the 700+ range would be to infringe upon the Corvette sales market IMO. Sure if someone wants a vette, they will buy a vette, but really, who are we kidding? HP like that is excellent from the factory, but at what point do we push to hard on the Vettes sales #'s?

just from the 3.6L put in the camaro from the cts, the minor differances give it a 2.6% power increase so if it is the same for the lsa and the camaro(witch im shure it will be) it should have about 570HP....but i still think that chevy should still go back to a big block on the camaro and corvette at lease as an option (re-do the zl-1 to give it around 700HP and slap it in the camaro and vette as a $10,000 option)

I'm willing to bet the engine will be the LSA but the horsepower will be less than 556 hp. I don't see GM giving the Camaro more power than the Cadillac CTS-V rating of 556. The LS3 is in the Corvette and Camaro SS but the Corvette has slightly more horsepower. The horsepower for the Z28 will probably be around 540-550.

Everybody keeps saying it will trump vette sales but the majority of people who buy vettes arent buying them because of the power. They buy them because they want the name. And even if the Camaro has more power than a vetter, it still wont out perform because of the weight diffrence. If they want to sell the Z28 as a GT500 killer, then they damn sure better make it bullet proof(forged internals and beefier half shafts, ect...) and give it more power since it weighs more. If GM is going to release the Z they better release it right or the people that know the GT500 can be modded without fear of hurting it will surely be a selling factor.

The LSA is due for a power bump anyway, I feel 2012 cts/z28 may go to 575hp.
Doubt if they make 2 power levels, cts and z28 should be the same. But a bump for both without a doubt.

I agree that if the LSA is the mill that makes it into the Z28 it will/should have just a little more power to differentiate itself from the Caddy. This will certainly be due to the better breathing in and out.

Regardless, it will then smoke the Mustang GT500 even with the extra weight of the Camaro. The pony car wars are on ladies and gentlemen, just look at the new Challenger! 6.4 litres now to beat the 6.2 Camaro SS. The Z28 will rule them all! Can't wait for the official news!

Just my guess.

Those people are an insignificant portion of the market. The number of people shrink even more when you consider which of them can afford the modifications...and then gets even smaller when you consider that some of them wouldn't blink twice at having forged internals installed along with the pulley-swap/tune.

The mod-ability of the GT500 is certainly an enthusiast-feature of the vehicle: something to consider....but it's over-exaggerated in these discussions about factory-competitiveness, imo.

I agree with many in here that the Z will likely have more than 556hp...just how much, though.......who knows! I'm sure they won't let us down, though!
