Camaro SS vs GT500 not KR

OK...yes i know the ford is rated at 500hp

BUT...it cant quite put it to the ground efficiently

I mean it was independently clocked at a 0-60 in 4.6...which is same as camaro

And no stability control

The only thing it has that i would like to order in my camaro is NAV...but we'll have that eventually....but im not gonna wait...i have a nice gps that ive had to buy for my job and it could beat any factory NAV.

And its 10k more

And only brembo FRONT rotors and calipers on the GT500

And oooooo...it has colored cup holders...oh no....Ambient Lighting is what we get foos

Anyways...i personally think that Chevy made the camaro compete with the (Murdered)Mustang GT and GT500(Competitor) at the same time.

DAMMET I CANT WAIT A YEAR

and also...wtf is with the 2010 model gt500...its all bubblegummy

And ALSO...the KR...is only .3 seconds faster to the 60 mark and is 44k more...LOL...and is still the same car as the GT500 essentially

In a straight line .. no comparison .. GT500 hands down ... I think it will be differnent in the twisties though ...

Anyone who takes the GT500 lightly will be suprised ... and you can mod them for cheap and get big HP ...

Id take either car ... I do however think that the GT500 is way overpriced ..

The KR is a limited production collectors car.

The 0-60 time might be similar, but in the 1/4 or farther the GT500 will pull away. Plus they can be easily and cheaply modified for even bigger hp. Also all Mustangs get stability control for 2010. Twisties should be a different story though.

The gt500...gets a 4.6 0-60
the GT500KR gets a 4.3 0-60
Camaro SS gets a 4.6 0-60

Nissan Armada stops in 128 Feet
GT500 stops in 120 Feet
Camaro Stops in 109 Feet
Porsche 911 stops in 106 Feet
Nissan Armada stops in 128 Feet

I would never take a GT500...not even the KR

All this talk of "get them out on the twisties" and it's game, set match. Folks, the limits on any of these cars are so high that 99% of owners/drivers will NEVER take these cars to those limit's on "public roads". Can you imagine seeing two cars attempting to pass each other on a two lane country road in a blind corner at 100MPH while some guy in a mini van is approahing???

Get real, the upper limit's of these cars will far exceed 99% of the drivers ability and will never be reached. The likely outcome will be determined by luck and or driver stupidy to press the issue.

I think we are all talking about events ... 1/4 drags at the track and autocross type events .. not talking about street racing I hope ..

I would .. but I would actually opt for an 03/04 cobra before a GT500 ..

Either way .. I already have my SS on order .. it is going to be a fun car ..

You do realize that the 2010 GT500 gets 540 hp right? and motortrend got the 2009 from 0-60 in 4.3 and the KR in 4.1 so the 2010 will most likely get a 4.1 as well. I do love the SS and it is a great deal but I'd take the 2010 GT500 over it.

What are the official 1/4 and 0-60 times for the 2009 and less GT500?
The SS can stay with that one. It will have more trouble beating the 2010 GT500, though.

I think Chevy made two upmarket cars in the Camaro while still pricing them in-line with their lower-market counterparts. The V6 slots higher than the other two, but not quite as high as a GT, or RT...and the SS slots higher than the GT, and RT (and SRT), but just a fraction below the 2010 GT500.

I don't really care. I'm getting a Camaro and I'm gonna enjoy every second of it.

Edmunds lists it as follows:
1/4 Mile (sec @ mph): 12.8 @ 112.6

I would guess it would be a very close race with the GT500 crossing just before the camaro .. but since there is no test data, it is hard to tell .. I hope I'm wrong

With the 2010 Gt500, I think it will come out a head for sure ..

Kinda hard to make comparisons when we haven't even had an official test of the SS.....I don't really care what most of the manufacturers say - they've been known to be wrong. Although the car mags usually differ, we probably need tests of a production SS, although I can't imagine the 540hp beast '10 Shelby not to be a pretty damn good performer

Motortrend got the GT500KR at 4.3
They also got the GT500 at 4.9

GT500

GT500KR

The GT500 is a fail people and they are just takin away the KR for the 2010 and putting the extra 40 horse into the GT500...still same suspension and oooo a (maybe) better steering...wtf is that...a better steering unit?

OK...did you see the stopping distance of the Mustang...

Now...what would be the point if just laid down the grounds with a porsche (best in comparison) with two cars and not laying down the Armada (Worst in comparison)...i mean cmon...the mustang stops only 8 feet shorter than an SUV...thats rediculous.

Ummm...a shelby is a mustang

They took a ford engine...put it in a ford car...with a ford suspension...available only at ford dealers...its a mustang

Last time i checked...Shelby mods mustangs...if it starts out as a mustang...it'll die as a mustang (which is like 5 years from purchase :P)

No...we need to remind people that the GT500 sucks...and hopefully when some potential buyer googles GT500...chewy4ce's thread of Camaro vs GT500 will show up and shed light on Ford's Epic Fail

Just because you hate Ford doesn't mean the GT500 is a "fail". The KR is gone because it was just meant for a limited run. All the 2010 Mustangs are using reused engines, GT takes the Bullitt setup and GT500 get the KR. In 2011 they get new engines.

Ok buddy I don't like the GT500 either mainly because i think it is over-priced and I don't really like the looks. But that is no reason to bash it, It's a good car for whoever can afford it and likes the looks. And it's American, which is the most important part

And there are hundreds of threads on this topic.
so I repeat

This thread is useless

Unless the OP has something intellectual to argue.

NAH....I'd rather have Chevrolet create a monopoly in the business

Ford die

Chrysler can stay...as long as chrysler gives them money to be accepted by GM

YES...its the inevitable

GM will OWN everything....even taco bell

And wtf are people saying they would be ok with the GT500 being bought over the camaro...hey people....if we dont get as much sales as we can in the opening years...camaro aint gonna be around to long...seeing how they've already stated that the camaro will be the last car on the Zeta Plat.

get your heads outta your ass and support the car that this forum was created for...if its not a Chevrolet...its the enemy...if chevrolet doesnt get the sale...thats money that GM doesnt have and it will show more profit loss.

Why would you be so irresponsible with your money buying a GT500?

And its not like its gonna be a collector's item

Thats the trouble with new cars as anyone knows...even the camaro

You want a car that appreciates value...go 79 and before...other than that...there is only loss when buying cars.

I cant believe anyone who has signed onto this site and waited as long as some and myself would offer sympathy towards a rival company...sure they might be American...but its this type of american cars that have helped conceive this global image of cheap and mediocre

We need to buy cars that help improve the image of american automotive...hopefully will help increase sales overseas...

We have to find a way to reshape the global conception of overall American Cars...and the way to do that is to buy the better car...not shell out 10k more for a car so primitive and old school that it only hurts us

I love oldschool...in oldschool cars...not oldschool in 2000 models
