production interior

Ok, so I am at the bar last night enjoying my usually bud light in a tall frosty mug (mmmmmm beer) and I run in to a buddy who is an automotive engineer. I have not seen him in some time so we start shooting the shit to catch up on things. Last I knew he was in Europe working for SAAB. So, I ask him where he is living now ands he says “well I am working for GM in Australia now” I immediately fallow up with “you wouldn’t be working on the Camaro would you” which he fires back “why yes I am, I am part of the design team working on the HVAC system”… So, I ask about the interior’s design and he stated it is going to look very close to the concepts interior with some minor changes. I also hit him up to see if he has seen a production version of the Camaro which he stated he had not… In all, he said everyone should be very happy with the production interior…

Seriously, that is GREAT news. I love the interior the way it is. Boy, oh boy, could they really screw it up trying to save a couple dollars. PLEASE KEEP IT THE SAME, GM!

This is why this site exists, is these little tidbits of info.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEESSSSSOOOMMMMMMEEEEEEE E!!!!!

That was one of my biggest concerns, will they keep the Camaro's interior the same (purely Camaro), or will they revamp it totally and turn it into juat another car interior....I CANT WAIT FOR THIS CAR TO COME OUT

This site DOES exist for those little tidbits of info...I like that. But those little tidbits of info are slowly driving me insane!!!!:headbonk:

Thats great to hear! What a lucky guy.
I like everything on the interior especially the steering wheel. Could they use that steering wheel on the production or is there not enough room for an airbag?

They said they probably won't be using the concept steering wheel in the production version if I recall correctly.
Like you said, airbag problems.

I hate, HATE to say this, but you guys should keep your eyes on other sites a little more.

A little over 2 or 3 weeks ago, over at CamaroZ28.com, they had an interview with Micah Jones, THE ACTUAL DESIGNER of the camaro interior, he has already stated on a podcast that the interior will remain largely unchanged with the exception of the radio, the mirrors and the Steering wheel, which will get an airbag and be a little bit bigger around.

But, this is great news, the more sources I hear it from the better. But seriously, you guys should listen to the podcast, its 2 seperate shows totalling about 40 minutes of them talking.

Here is the link, its right there on the front page, parts 1 and 2

Stig, I think you should just change your name to “Negative Nancy”. For your information I have listen to both pod casts, actually on the days they were released… This is where you would open your mouth and insert your foot… :middlefinger:

TAG I did hit him up for as much info as he could give up with out the black suburbans taking a trip down under …

Oh, I'm sure you did. It's just increadible how tight lipped all these folks are when it come to concepts/production versions, etc. The "no talk" deal that the person, or employee, makes with GM must be one hell of a deal. Seriously, it's like...you talk and we get your soul! NO ONE WILL SAY ANYTHING! I'd love to read the agreement/contract GM makes with people.

I'm going to be pretty happy with the production interior. Don't want the steering wheel to change, but yeah...airbag. Want the tach/gauges to change a bit up front...need to read the speedo. Want the radio to change...along w/ the ac controls.

I only hope they update the gauges a bit. Now my wife, on the other hand, says she wants "radio controls" on the steering wheel, a nice cushy seat and a cup holder  I'm not sure how I feel about that, but I think it would be better if GM left them OFF as this would deter her from wanting to drive my 5th gen. Well... all except the cushy seat of course...

I don't want steering wheel radio controls because they don't work with aftermarket stereos and you're left with all those buttons that wouldn't work. I prefer cruise control buttons there.

Also, the gauges being so low is a huge concern for me. Imagine how dirty those things are going to get, very fast. Also, most protective cleaners can permanently damage the clear plastic used in gauges, and when they're all together behind the steering wheel I think it's easier to clean them safely.

Well then why is what your friend saying such a suprise.

Personally i would take a Lead Designers word over an HVAC "designer" anyday.

And why should i change my name to negative nancy? What the hell does that have to do with anything???

They make adapters for the steering wheel controls. They will still work w/ an aftermarket radio.

I can agree on the gauges getting dirty. I'll just have to be extra careful.

First off. Didn't they both say pretty much the same thing?

Second. I wouldn't trust the "lead designer" over my friend. A piece of Information's meaning has a totally different tone when coming from a trusted friend, rather then a Public speaker. Besides, the officials are given scripts to read, basically. "You can't talk about this, this, or this. Oh, and beat around the bush if they ask you about this."

Third...I'm actually not going to touch this one...................Okay, maybe I will. I just love that name, makes me laugh evertime I hear it. "Negative Nancy", "Negative Nancy"....lol!!! Hahaha

My ex used to call me "Negative Nancy" when I was being pissy. Would usually make me smile and get out of it.

Debbie Downer?
Sorry, I just had to add that in.
As soon as I saw the Extreme styling of the mirrors, gauges, etc. I immediately told myself they would be changed but, its good to know for sure that they will. But hopefully in a good way

Petty Polly (made that up)

You know it'll be changed in a good way! I like the razorness of them, so they could always keep the shape, and just make them taller...

Hello all. This is my first post. I was honored to see the silver Concept Camaro Coupe on the Hot Rod Power Tour in 2006. Then last night I got to see the orange convertible at the Rev It Up event held at Epcot.

I'm sure many of you feel the way I'm feeling about this car...completely obsessed!

I have to say, though, I DO NOT like the speedo and tach setup. To me, they look like weird eyeballs staring at you. I don't know how easy they'll be to read either. Maybe if they weren't so concave it would help. If this ends up being the production version, I'll be looking for aftermarket replacements soon after purchase.

On first glance I didn't like the guages on the center console, but after coming back to the car last night a few times, they grew on me. They really help to relay that this concept is taking cues from the '69. As long as they'll be accurate, that's all that matters, yes?

Overall, I really like where they're headed with this. I just hope they do something about the speedo and tach.

((I know it's off subject, but has anyone seen what they have as the engine in the concept cars yet? It's really sharp! Very clean, brushed aluminum look. On that subject, I talked with the guy there. He suggested the LS3 with around 400HP. Sounds good to me!))
