i know the 3.6 gm is using now is a high compression engine that doesn't require high octane fuel due to it being direct injection allows it to run on the cheap stuff. i see the new engine is also direct injection also. the high compression is helping it make the power with 89 octane

Do Camaros run on E85

do the 2010/2011 Camaro SSs run on E85? If they do, can you not just tune them to run more effectively for E85?

to the 8,AND the 6!..putting a 'blower" on a 4 sounds right!

i agree!..cannot believe the general would "farm" the tranny out to a "jap" company!..(aisin!)..don't understand why warner didn't get the contract!
apparently the "bean" counters got involved!...remember!..it's a chevy!,and NOT a caddy!..guess that might explain why!
A few things...CAFE ratings are already in effect. And GM's far smarter than you or I to let those standards ruin any of their vehicles. They will move to make the appropriate changes in their portfolio in order to achieve the fleet average. For the record on this matter, GM's never failed to meet the standard.

V8s, and especially V6s will not be going anywhere for some many decades to come...There's no foundation for those kind of foreboding statements. Become less common? Maybe. But certainly not disappear.

Also...General Motors 'farms' out MANY parts and services to different parts of the world. Warner, who actually makes the Tremec unit in Mexico...possibly didn't make a transmission to spec for the V6 application. It probably has little to do with the accountants, since that philosophy is largely behind the company. Oh....and by the way, that Aisin transmission is also used in the Cadillac CTS.

It's definitely a 3.6, but I think it shares more in common with the Caddy's 3.0L than our current LLT.

It was all an equation. Outside of the "3.6L LFX" designation uncovered, there is currently no 3.6L with all those specs in use within the company. So this would be brand new...and I used some conservative math to guess at the power output.

Right, and something to think about, the Camaro's V6 (LLT), has a compression ratio of 11.3:1, while the LF1 has a Compression Ratio of an even higher 11.7:1!!

No, they aren't equipped from the factory with the necessary hoses and sensors to run E85.

Idk remember if this was asked or not, but is this supposed to replace the LLT or just be another option?

We're thinking it's a replacement.

More likely than not outright replace the LLT for cost reasons. To have three drivetrains for the Camaro would be pushing efficiency and flexibility, something that is pretty damn important when GM designs cars now.

Gone are the days of the I-rawn dook, 2.8L, 3.1L, 5.0L, L98 options in one or more model years.

It may not change much, using the same math. Torque is a real measure of an engine's output...hp is a measure of power that's more fun to reference, though.

There's still a ton that's unknown about this engine...we'll have to wait and see what they do with it.

This is what I'm worried about. The magazines, ford guys, dodge guys, and everyone else will feel even better about themselves if chevy advertises a "330" or whatever horse V6, that is basically very little to no faster than the current car. Current LLT makes 278 torque (if I remember correctly) and that much more than the current 3.0. Hopefully the new engine will also have more torque than the LLT...

...or if anything, hopefull they offer a gearing option!

Nothing new there though...just a rehashing of what we have here.

I'm sure they won't be reinventing the wheel. That is to mean -- I very much doubt they'll put the effort necessary to validate and engineer a brand new engine for the Camaro if it's not going to improve anything.

Unfortunately, Camaro5 presents no actual evidence of any of this, so for now, it’s speculative at best.
Yeah, because MotorTrend never speculates about anything lmao.

As excited as i am, which i am, i kind of feel down about a new replacement engine in only 2 years, i guess its what the 2010 stang guys felt but they knew it was coming. Oh well.
So im only reading E85 in the description, everything else seems to be the same as what we already got. Now i know i read somewhere that our LLT was pushing 325 to the crank in an upcomming vehicle.
I know we stated that this would be the same engine family and it will be all speculation from here, but it seems like this LFX will be really close to what we already got plus a few tweaks and parts.
Still interesting as hell though, and i see no replacement for the LS3 any time soon, that beast is easy to unleash some more power
If theres a new interior as well....well then my baby wont be sitting in the garage anymore
