I was profiled today by sheriff and didn't like it.

By the Beaufort County NC Sheriffs dept. I know there are LEO's on here so please comment if what I saw is SOP.

Time of day 4-ish PM, traffic light, sunny, Hwy 33 south, 47 year old guy driving a yellow SS

Driving down a two lane road going home from work, wearing seatbelt, cruise set at 60 mph, I saw you at the gas station and we made eye contact. About a mile down the road I saw you passing cars coming up behind me, you were hauling butt because I was doing 60 and you closed the distance very fast. No lights or flashers. By that time I dialed the cruise down to 58. When you did get behind me what was the reason to get so close in your Charger that I could not see the front of your car and only about 1/2 the hood in my rear view? Then you backed off to about a car length (I guess you realized you couldn't read my plate since you were so close) and I saw you on the radio. Did the report come back that my record is totaly clean? last ticket for speeding about 10 years ago. Then you felt the need to get back on my bumper? Did you think something was up because I didn't slow down to 55? Did I weave? Either way you stayed less than a car length behind me for over a mile and 1/2. Did you get nervous when I tapped my brakes? Must have since you dropped way back, about 4 or 5 car lenghts....didn't mean to scare you, I was tapping off the cruise, since I was turning at the next street, did you like the turn signal? Must have since you followed me down that street. At least you backed off since you found out that the next left I took was the street I live on. To bad you didn't follow me down that street, I stopped about a 1/4 mile down to check the mail box. Since you were so interested in me you could have picked up my mail. Sorry I ruined your afternoon and I didn't run, wasn't a drug dealer, wasn't wanted......maybe next time you will get your big bust

I hate when they ride up on your arse like that. Surely they can see better than that?

Was it unmarked? Next time call OnStar and tell them that some dark grey/black/white/whatever color it was Dodge Charger is tailgating you. It's apparently a riot

Presented with the same circumstances, I would have slowed, pulled over and let him pass. My first reaction is he was on a call and need to get somewhere. Move out of the way as a courtesy. Since he focused on you, I would have pulled over and let him come to a stop behind you. That would be the only way to find out what he wanted.
Who knows, maybe he saw a car like yours earlier and it ran from him. Or maybe a car described like yours was involved in a crime or something. Maybe a yellow camaro had been stolen recently. Maybe he was just admiring your car and wanted a better look. I am sure you were on his dash cam the whole time.
What's the speed limit on highway 33 south?

first thing i do is slow to 5 under the limit. if they still gotta play, i pull into the first parking lot that comes up. then just pull into a parking space and get on the cel phone and act like you don't even know he's there.
believe me, i'll wait him out...i'm pretty sure his shift will be over before i wake up.

I live over near Benson, NC and this sound similar to what happened to me too!. I have no idea what their thinking, maybe to make us do something to give them a reason to pull us over.

This.

Don't be so sensitive...you didn't get a ticket or even pulled over and what he/she did was hardly offensive.

I asked for a warning after getting pulled over for speeding. The cop shot over my hood and said "There's your warning."

Complete abuse of power and dangerous driving habits by the officer.

You should have pulled over and asked for his badge number, name, and for the watch commander's name. Then got his patrol car's plate# and filed a complaint.

The OnStar suggestion sounded good too. Tell them you seen aggressive driving and now the driver is tailgating you.

Either way, a complaint should be filed.

He was trying to pass you but his Charger got scared and didn't have the courage.
