Cages are a big project, Period. The detail work you are putting in turns it into a BIG PROJECT.

How much fab work could you eyeball that you'll be doing to get the trim pieces back on?

"naked Brandi"

edit: Just lost the net when I saw you edited your post.

Delete my back seat question
No problem on the back seat question... I thought about leaving it for cosmetic purposes, but when I saw the frame work used to hold it in, I decided that it would be a good weight loss start... It's a wooly booger project...

As for the trim, I've already cut out the quarter trim pieces... That was really a lot easier than I thought, but I ran into a snag...

....We are welding it in... The instructions are primarliy detailed for bolting in the 6 point cage....
(Let me say right there, John Nguyen at TrackSpec Motor Sports and the Crew at RPM are first rate... I called John with a couple of questions and he helped with what he could but felt I would be well served to talk to Rob or Tim at RPM... He called RPM, and Rob called me within a few minutes and was most helpful... and shortly after that, as Rob and I had discussed, Tim sent me some pictures of their work as they originally fabbed it up and those were most helpful in the details)

...So, the snag was that the plates on the inner wheels wells... It says in the instructions to cut out the quarter trim and loosely place it back in the car before bolting the cage in... This creates a problem... You can't get it back in with the cage in place, but you cant weld it with it in place... So... We have a plan, but it has yet to be proven a workable plan... If it works, I'll be forwarding what we did to RPM and TrackSpec for other customers...though they may have already figured it out... but coming from a different box, it may work for them as well... More on that later...

I'm trying to make it really look good as well as provide the best level of safety in the car... I did find out that this is the 1st RPM 8 point cage to be installed in the 5th Gen Camaros... Other than the one they used to fab it...

Thank You Sir,

Corey and I discussed the padding of the roll bar...

I am going to get some roll bar padding from Simpson or somewhere... and then find a leather shop in the area... I'll have them cut some strips of leather dyed grey, and let them weave the lacing in a nice pattern. I will not cover the entire cage, just the areas that are in the "hit you in the head or on the arm" zone in case of accident...

This cage is amazing in the quality of welding, and so far the fit... The coating is awesome... though we will trash some of it during the welding process... Thats my fault... John asked me when I bought the cage if I wanted it masked off during the coating process, and thinking I would only install the bar for right now I told him no, coat the whole thing... My Bad...No biggee... We'll weld it and take care of what we need to as we get there... Also, I plan on getting Platinum colored harnesses so the grey leather will match the interior as well as the harness color...

Hey Bud. I have done some more research on the N2MB 2step box. It looks like it could be a good one. I'll keep you posted.

I appreciate it... I'll be waiting... Corey has also looked at it though being as busy as a cut worm he hasn't had time to research it... So, I'll pass on your findings to him as well if you're ok with that...

I'm close to pulling the trigger on it. Just have a few more questions. I always share, so feel free.

It'll be neat to see how you do the trim back in this area. Are ya'll TIG welding it in there? No slag to destroy those nice leather seat backs!

Maybe a U cut in that trim piece where the bar is on the wheel well. That does look like a bugger to get the trim back in there.

The trim piece does have an area that gets cut out, and it is cut out, but, the instructions say to install the trim back in loosely, and then run the bolts up... We are welding it in so... More to follow...

And yes, it will be tig welded...

Glad it went well today! Remember, shoot the zombies in the head to get rid of them.

Did my cooler mod this evening. Consisted of filling it with beer and then slowly making them go away.....awesome mod!

Sounds like everything went well, so that's a blessing.

Cool stuff R. Now just get all better, cage installed and clutch leg back in action.

Here are a few more pics off the cage install from the other day... We are bolting the cage in as per the instructions, and then will weld it down at all the plated areas... After welding it down, the bolts will be removed one at a time and the nuts replaced with new Nylock nuts to prevent backing off and creating rattles...

There are backer plates for all of the interior plates... You can see one in the wheelwell, Drilling all this out and getting it lined up so it bolts right up is a chore, but not too bad if you measure three or four times and drill it once...

This cage is quite extensive and very well built... With just the wheel well portion bolted on, there was no movement at all... By the time we get the cross bars bolted and welded in, the halo, the downtubes, the door bars and the rocker bars all welded in, this thing will be super rigid..

One of thee pics shows the metal plate riveted on that is the certification plate... TrackSpec Motorsports offers a money back guarantee, if it doesn't pass tech, they will buy it back... I have no doubt this bad boy will pass tech with flying colors...

Due to undulations in the floor pan, RPM and TrackSpec Motorsports provide spacer bars to fill in the gaps... It's coming together...
