Question about AFM

If anyone has experience with similar techology:

What is suppose to happen if AFM is active and I stomp the pedal or tap ship down a gear? Will AFM deactivate quickly? Thoughts on this?

Thanks

It will deactivate immediately. With tuning, you can make it stay off or play with it a little, but we have to wait for a tuning solution to come out.

I assume, because I don't know 100% for sure, that it wil instantly kick back to all 8 cylinders. Wouldn't be any point to have it in a sports car if there was any major lag.

Thanks. That makes sense.

The avatar was fun to do. It was a "family effort". I did the coins and my son did the animation.

Two people I know own an AFM vehicle. They can't tell when it happens if not for the alert on the DIC...It's really quick.

That's really good to hear. I hope we have that feedback in the Camaro DIC.

Thank you. I'll pass along your kind words but I'm not sure how long I could live with his inflated head.

Will Tap shift allow us to down shift?
I thought I read that we can up shift but it will only auto down shift.

I often drive my dads Impala SS with cylinder deactivation and you cannot even tell its happening. Even when you stomp on it. It is very fast to kick in all 8 cylinders. You cant even tell.

last i heard, you can downshift (unless the shift will send the RPMs too high)

I can feel it very very slightly in a g8gt. I think in the high performance motors it's a bit more crude in transferring modes than in other cars. It changes from one mode to the other in 1 cam revolution (1/2 engine rpm). The tunning has been done on other cars but I would guess with the Camaro being such a big seller you may see some neat stuff (deactivation switch?). That development couldn't be justified on other platforms.

Thats the idea. Remember that the engine is turning at ~1200 rpm or so while AFM is engaged. Thats 20 revolutions per second, or 10 cycles/second. If it only takes a couple of cycles to activate (deactivate?) then you are looking at maybe 0.1-0.2s?
