Smile Prom

I was asked by several high school students to borrow my new Camaro. I refused most, but then allowed a good kid to borrow it. He feared for his life the entire time, so it went very well.

A nephew also asked me a few weeks later for the same prom. I had to give him my 69 Camaro to drive. He loved it. This year he plans to take the new Camaro.

Another nephew asked for another prom. He was scared to death after I said yes. He said they had a blast in it.

I didn't check up on any of the kids, but I gave them a few rules to "LIVE" by. They couldn't park the car within 100' of another car. So in most cases this meant they could drive the cars all afternoon and then give them up after they arrived at the dance.

You can't believe how HAPPY these kids were. It made it VERY worthwhile. I will do it again in a heartbeat.

I'm thinking not only no, but h*&% no!! My middle child is a junior, so more than one person has asked if I'm letting him take it to prom, and my answer is always, no. I'll drive him if he wants, but he's not taking it to a parking lot with other inconsiderate teenagers. I've been in that school parking lot and watched them leave, so it ain't happening.

Well , after a few years , and no prom night for the Camaro , it did happen this time around
After a few years , and many more conversations , my daughter did marry Nick
And sure enough they took the Camaro to their honeymoon
All the way to the wine country
Very happy for them , Nick and Meghan will have lots of good memories

It depends. I would let them take the Camaro before I'd let them take my wife's conversion van.

I'm at peace with myself on this issue now
Nick is a much more mature now than in 2011 , and my daughter also as grown into a young adult with plans for the future
They really come a long way from that prom night a while back
Again I'm good with saying yes to it when she asked me if I would let them take my car to
Napa
What could I have said , I I'm so proud of them

I say yes. It's a car. It can be replaced. My oldest son turned 8 on Thursday, and I'm already itching for the day he can drive dad's 1LE and take run it at his first auto-cross or take it to his prom.

As long as boyfriend doesn't drive it. My daughter would know how much my car means to me, and I would trust her. But boyfriend gets no trust with my car, and likely my daughter. =)

Please re-think your answers!
maybe he's more concerned about you, what I mean is even though it's not a supercar, it still is pretty fast and accidents do happen. i'm surprised that I didn't get a cross on the side of the road when I was growing up because my 1st car (which I still have) was really more than I should have had then. either way, be safe

I'm pretty sure the "i do" is in reference to the vows. though it does make it seem like there was some doubt

I'd say it completely depends on how responsible you've shown yourself to be, none of us know you like your dad does.

Rental places wont usually let people under 21 or sometimes even 25 drive the car, especially something like a Camaro.

I say yes my older brother has always been a "car guy" hes had many muscle cars i remember when i turned 18 hes bd present to me was to let me drive his baby that being a 68 plymouth gtx 4 speed i think it had a 440 six pack , imagine 18 with all power at my hands so if these kids are responsible and basically good kids i say a big yes its something they will never forget just like i have never forgotten and we still talk about now and then 45 yrs later...

I said no in aeay post but you know what I changed my mind it's only a car and your his daughter and you are way more important then a car. I'm sure you dad loves you and trust you, you are most likey one of the most important persons in his life. in the years to come your Dad will cherish the moment because time runs out on us all, we all take to many minor issues and make them seem so important such as his car. Nothing is more important than your dad making you happy and feeling loved. Sit with your dad and set some ground rules for using the car that night and have a great time.

I'm guessing the work of a groomsman. Didn't catch it at first though.

I vote NO also...
I rented a car for my daughter and boyfriend to use on Prom night... found out later that the boyfriend (who went by the wayside a year later) totally abused the car. If he'd have blown the engine, it would have been on me! Knowing teen aged boys (I used to be one), I'd NEVER let one drive my Camaro!

If you alone were driving and are trust worthy, yes. But do not let boyfriend sit in that seat!
