I didn't get an order number- is that bad?

I ordered my 2LT last Thursday, but all I was given was a yellow receipt. Should I have gotten anything else?

They should be able to print you a copy of the order Workbench as soon as the order is submitted. It will have your order number on it which can be referenced later if you have to contact GM about the order.

As others have said, you should get a workbench print out with the order number on it.

My dealer called and asked me if I had any questions, and I asked him about it and he said he doesn't have it yet.

He is either lying or he didn't order the car. He may have only accepted your money but didn't submit the order to Chevrolet.

Dealers may have a "specific" day they enter all orders into the system. Wait 7 days, ask again.

He called me and left me a message asking me if I was still interested in the car. I called him back and was like "Umm...I gave you a $500 deposit, didn't I?". And he was like "Yeah, I just wanna see if you had any questions". I was like....ookkkayyy.

I would get over there right now and talk to the saleman/sales manager. Get your order in the system and get your number. If not, pull the deposit and head down the road. This isnt right.

from what i am reading most dealers don't print out a workbench copy ... but because most of the people on this site are enthusiasts they ask for the workbench numbers. am i wrong?

Robert Chevrolet in Hicksville.

My dealer called me back and said that he called me by mistake, and said that me meant to call me to tell me my credit app had been denied. :(

I'm only 18, so I had my Grandma co-sign for me (I'm paying for the car). They said she didn't make enough money, but she's retired and I know her and my Grandpa combined definitely have a good amount of money. Maybe I'll try putting my Grandpa as the co-signer instead of her...she's an old (not that old lol) Italian lady, maybe she didn't understand what I was trying to ask her when I was filling out the application lol.

Ant, I will leave you with this: Get over to the dealer, regardless of who co-signed and get your order number. You place the order, it goes in the system, you get your number...... that simple. This has nothing to do with enthusiasts, or any other BS. If you put down a deposite they should load your order and give you your code. Simple.
I wouldnt leave there without your order or your deposit back.
Your 18 and possibly not used to these situations but your case is simple. I gave you $500.00 to pre-order my car,,,, you havent done that,,,, so either do it or give me my money back.
They have given you NO indication that they are holding up their end of the bargin so you need to make sure that they are. Please be sure to do this calmly, and collected because being a maniac about it wont get you anywhere. Just inquire, IN PERSON, very calmly and ask for the printout with your order number. If they dont give it to you then ask why not? Go from there.
If you would like to talk about this some more, PM me and I will give you my PH # so we can talk. I dont want to see you get screwed.
Good luck.

Thanks. I did tell my dealer I wouldn't be ready to buy until June, so maybe he is waiting to actually put the order in?

I will wait until the weekend, and then call and ask again.

My advice is.
1 - Get your 'deposit' back
2 - If you need a cosigner save up a good down payment (like 50% down), if you still need a cosigner and have someone willing that's fine but this protects them if something happens to you and/or your job.
3a - Get your financing secured, local credit union, bank, whatever.
3b - If the dealer can offer good financing that's fine, but carefully compare the total costs to what you found on your own.
4 - Go order your new Camaro, with an order number and everything.
5 - Enjoy driving around in your new Camaro!

I got my order and told him I hope he had another Camaro cap because I was going to take it off his head. We walked over to the parts department and I picked me out a hat.

Thats what my dealer is doing, all orders going in on the same day, hey Scotty, does it matter which order goes in first that day, or does it not matter at all in which order they go in on that day?

they shouldn't have even ran a credit app at this time.Thats done right before the car gets to the dealer.prices and incentives could be different from now to the time it actually comes in.When i ordered mine,he asked if i was gonna go with GMAC or an outside lender . I told him whoever gives me the best interest rate, and that was the extent of our discussion on financing .

Yep...they shouldn't be running a credit app yet. Those things are only good for 30 days so you will have to rerun it anyway when the car is closer to being shipped.

Doesn't matter. They can pick and choose how to actually put the orders through before the orders drop to production.

Yes they should run your credit because if you can't pay for it, why are they placing an order for you.

However, there is no excuse for that dealer to not put the order in immediately (after credit approval) and give you a GM order number (generated thru GM Order Workbench).

I think the problem is here that you were not approved for a loan and they do not want to take the space in their allotment if you don't have the means to pay for the car.

Must be their policy.

Now if you tell them you're paying cash (getting outside money) and they order the car for you, if you can't get the loan outside and the car comes in, don't be surprised if you lose your initial deposit.

After I ordered mine, a week later I asked for an order number and was told there wasn't one. After much run around I got GM involved.
Basically, it appears the misunderstanding was because I didn't say Workbench because I eventually got the printout and it showed it was put in right after I ordered it.
