Cats or no??

I'm almost ready to place my order for LT headers. Looks like I'm going with 1 7/8" Stainless Works. I'm just torn between ordering cats or not. On one hand I like spending less money and making slightly more power. On the other hand I think the smell may get annoying. I will be running the stock cat-back for a while then stepping up to the aggressive SW cat-back. I think the cats will give me better (louder) sound with the stock CB but may be too much with the SW system. Opinions please.

I have after market cats and even with those the smell is considerably stronger than with stock cats.. I cant imagine how bad it would be without cats at all.. However, mine is a DD.. if it was only a track car maybe it would be OK.

I have the Kooks coated headers with Kooks cats and there is no smell and the car is NOT loud unless you bring the rpm up. That is perfect for me.

I prefer dogs myself, but that's just me.

Kidding. I have Kooks headers, no cats, cam and a Borla ATAK exhaust. It's definitely loud, but I really like it. I thought at first that it would drive me crazy, but it hasn't so far. Mine's also a daily driver.

I need to get a good video of the sound, but here's one when the cats were still on. It got a little louder without them, but this will give you an idea.

No real gains by going catless you will save a few bucks but the smell is awful! Stainless Works appears to be using the Random technology cats which are some of the best.

I have stainless works LTs into a Magnaflow street catback with no cats and mine isn't annoying loud at all even at wot. The smell isn't that bad either. I'd try it with out them and if you think you need them then buy them and put them on. They are easy to install if you decide to. Save your $625 for other things.

Diddo

I'm currently running that same setup (Kooks long tubes, no cats, and Magnaflow Street). It sounds great without being obnoxiously loud, and I get very little smell.

I also have the high flow cats and run them from time to time. They reduce the noise level about 5-10% or so.

Turns on my Jedi mind tricks, "You don't wan't headers or high flow cats. You want to stay stock."

Reaally hope that works. See you Saturday Dan.

The drag strip is like sniffing glue, it's cheap, it's a decent buzz, it doesn't last long and they are all the same.
Road racing is like China White Heroin, the buzz is stronger, the high lasts for hours, it's extremely addictive and they are all different.
I can't wait for my next
Track fix.

I didn't run cats on my previous 4th gen Camaro. The sound is phenomenal, but the smell of unburnt fuel is very annoying. Far too annoying to offset the minimal gain in power. I can't stand that smell...it clings to your clothes and lingers in the garage. From now on, unless it's an old-school muscle car, I'm running cats.
