Anyone with 500-550rwhp able to hook with drag radials on street?
Hey everyone I am about to send my car off for a stall small 2400 with Livernois 2C cam to accompany my current 501rwhp Magnacharged auto. It is projected that I will see 530-550whp on the dyno with some hp hidden by stall. What I am wondering is if with this power is there anyone that is able to use a drag radial on 20" wheel that will hook at these levels at a roll or from a dig. I will have the BMR trailing arms, non adj toe rods, and rear cradle inserts along with Nitto 555R. With these stock tires I already have some turbo diesel trucks that can give me a run for my money due to my car spinning and getting squarly. They never get by me lol but I feel that I could be much further ahead especially once I add this power but I need to get it to hook and I know the stall can make that worse. Any opinions suggestions would be great.

My gosh guys..what temps are you having down there to even think about running DR right now.
They are like hard plastic when below 60 degrees and not very effective. Of course PZeros are just as bad but at least you wont be cracking them.

Yes my car might as well be on ice all the time in 30 below. Just sucks when a big heavy trunk can hold you because of it lol. Thanks for the info on not running the dr's in winter though that way I will know I need to have mine changed back over to stock atleast for winter. man I was hoping for some luck on hooking atleast from a roll!

When it is warm you will see a HUGE difference running DR on the street. I also vote for either the 555 or 05.

I can say I have heard the 05 is not great for mileage. I drive my car about 12k a year so I think the 555r would allow me a full years use which would be most cost effective but I really want the car to hook I did do ok one pzeros this past summer I spun but once it hooked it went and now winter is really sucky so I was thinking atleast in the summer on dr's I could hook pretty good.

I have about the same HP with an auto and 555 DRs on the OE wheels. I could not tell much difference between the Nittos and the PZeros when driving on the street. Now when you can let some air out and heat them up like at the track there is a huge difference.

Pretty much. 4wd/awd will win out all most everytime on the street and short runs. Instant traction is hard to beat.

If you are willing to go down in rim diameter you can gain some traction back. Also M/T is coming out with 20" drag radials.

You might want to try installing an orifice in the supercharger bypass valve hose. It delays boost to allow better street tire traction. I have a 0.016 inch Harley CV carb pilot jet in my brand X car. Works good!

With a built engine and 2.3L Whipple in my Lightning I was making 614whp/674wtq and running on 305/45-18 NT555R's. Despite the huge low end torque it made, I could hook it on the street if I launched it just right. I had to get them VERY hot though.

Control of boost is awesome, but nobody is hooking in January unless you live in Florida.

With the orifice and 9 psi of boost, mine does OK down to 40* with 3.73 gears.

I can't go full throttle for quite a bit on the Silverado on the street tires or on the DR's with normal tire pressure. On the Camaro with with a 200 shot making 640rwhp and 800rwtq it will hook with the Nitto NT05R's with no problem on the street. Comes in handy when handing out a can of whip ass on the Mustangs. That was before the 3000 stall went in now you have to feather the throttle a little bit. So your options are limited. You can get the O5R's and sacrifice a lot of mileage as the tires will wear very fast. Or you can learn to take off without spinning the tires. I know it is hard to do when someone is next to you and you want to beat them but if you practice enough you will eventually be able to do it.

As others have mentioned, you have to get a Nitto pretty hot, but they work very well.
I've been 9's on a 20" Nitto 555R and 10.4 @ 134 mph with a 1.55 60' in Midgard's 650 RWHP auto Camaro on a 20" NT05R. They work excellent on the street as well if they are warm. -Rick

My 555s hooked up very well with 15 psi and a sticky track. Over 900 rwhp and made a 9.84. They are very good sticky tires. I think you won't even notice the 2400 stall. Mine is a 3200 and sometimes can't really tell it's there.

nittos nto5rs
Never had any problems hooking up on the street when it was 50 degrees or higher out.

I have the same situation with the diesels. I am going to get a cam and tune on my car tomorrow and will have @ 450 rwhp but I also have an 05 duramax im waiting to get my built motor, twin turbos, and dual feulers so once I get my dmax broke I should have around 800 to 850 rwhp
