SS Order, not until 2010!?

The dealer I was going to order from just called me and said everything on the internet about getting SS's in 2009 is BOGUS. He said if I order now, from his first allocation, my SS would arrive in 2010. Is this correct information?

I knew the 6 cylinders would be built first, but I was under the impression that if I ordered from a "first allocation", I would get my SS between April & June.

Please advise.

^A-freaking-men. They don't know crap about the cars and this kind of stuff most of the time. For example I went by the local GM dealer today to check out the new Opel Insignia (awesome car btw), and asked a simple question of what the difference between the Sedan and the Kombicoupe (as they're calling it) was. And he said it was like three small things. So I asked why it then was considered a separate model, and he said because it is. I got the impression that this guy really didn't know shit, and he didn't really give me any kind of attention and respect. Just one of the many reason that even if they get the Camaro (which I doubt) I'll never buy from them.

Good point. Doesn't hurt to reinforce the point though.

The sky is not falling.

Here's what we know:

1st: Chevy is initially going to get each dealer a V6 that doesn't count against their allocation.

2nd: Chevy has said they expect to fill all pre-orders by October of which over 3/4 are V8.

3rd: Friday is the first consensus.

4th: That's it. That is all we know.

Everything else is pure speculation.

^^^ What he said. That is correct. Some dealers may be able to get a couple V8's by April because of the size of their allocation (Classic Chevy, Paddock, etc). Then there will be the small allocated dealers on the other end of the spectrum who may not see their first ordered car until June (my opinion).

In any case, what happens is simple.

Friday your dealer gets told they can order, say for example, (2) V6's but (0) V8's for March delivery. Next step is your dealer should match (2) V6 pre-orders to those to available cars and click SEND.

Just so you know, what should happen is your dealer should match them in order of when they were pre-ordered, but they can instead match them in any order they want or even order lot cars instead. It is totally up to the dealer.

I'm in the same boat. I want to order a 1SS near the end of March, beginning of April, but I would like to think I would still have my car delivered before Oct. Though from what some people are saying it seems that if you don't have an order in by start of production it will not be part of the first batch of cars produced aka "deliverable by Oct". Is this more or less true?

Two things in play here.

The October pre-order completion is a SAFE date in my opinion. I would suspect they'll actually complete the pre-orders by late August- early September.

ONLY the pre-orders are price protected. If you order after March 16th you leave yourself open to any price increases.

Long story short, if you order in late March-early April, I would bet you'd still have your car by the end of October but maybe at a higher price...

In the past, GM has only increased the price at the start of the next MY, not in the middle of the MY. They say pre-orders are only price protected but it's most likely all of 2010 cars will be the same price and any price increase will effect 2011 MY's.

I agree with you but there has to be some reason fbodfather would specifically point that out...

In what plant are they building the Camaro's? I'd like to take a tour of the manufacturing facility. I know Mercedes and BMW offers tours, not sure how GM is on that type of activitiy. Would be an awesome site!

This may have been covered elsewhere but I couldn't find it (and I did try).

Everyone has said that GM will determine V6 and V8 build counts and then tell the dealer how many of each are available for ordering for the upcoming month. I get that, no problem. My question is, does the trim level of the car affect that as well? 1SS vs. 2SS, for example? With and without sunroofs?

Based on everything we've heard, No.

It doesn't appear that trim will have any real impact to filling orders. Not that we have been made aware of.

The Camaro is being built in the GM Oshawa (Canada) plant and to the best of my knowledge, there are no "tours" there.

Your dealer is an idiot. Usually, I would tell a story about how your particular dealer probably became so stupid here, but your dealer's lack of intelligence is completely inexplicable. Your dealer is simply an idiot, and no explanation for this stupidity exists.

Your car will be a MY2010, but it will arrive after it is built. Your dealer does not know when it will be built. Assumptions coming from your dealer have less credibility than assumptions that 2011 will bring a Z28. Your dealer is not only wrong but either inexperienced or high on something illegal. The truth is that it is hard to pinpoint when you car will arrive, and all your dealer is doing is causing you, as a customer, to consider other products. As a sales "professional," that is irresponsible and reckless. It is fools like your dealer that make other customer service and salespeople look bad.

I had emailed GM Friday about the lack of dealers having any brochures for the Camaro and to my suprise I got a call from a rep in about 2 hours. He told me that the first Camaros would be delivered to high volume dealers in late March and the smaller dealers getting them in April. They are planning on full production when they start. They are planning on having ALL pre-orders filled by May 1st and having at least 1 V6 for test drives at every dealer by then also. He stressed that this is what the are shooting for. He said if I had any more questions that I should call the 1 800 #, they can also tell me what options that are available.

BOBSS, here's what u do...go to another dealer and place your order. Once you get your SS (which will be before 2010 of course), go to the idiot dealer's lot and connect a series of donuts and burnouts to spell out "DUMBASS"
