No camaros @ Carlisle in 2011

(I posted this in another forum but thought it might be seen better here.)

It was just announced last night that the American Camaro Assoc. (ACA) and the Maryland Camaro Club (MCC), who have been running the show for camaros at Carlisle for the last 6 years, have decided that they will not be participating in the GM Nationals in 2011. Instead, they will host the Camaro Nationals on June 23-25, 2011 at the Frederick Fairgrounds in Frederick, MD. For more information, click here: http://nastyz28.com/forum/showthread.php?t=198547

That freakin sucks! What the hell! Why do they have to mess with something that works so well.

There have been some issues and problems in the past between the clubs and Carlisle Events and the clubs decided to pull out. They will keep almost everything the same this coming year other than the location: the same classes, the same judges, camping facilities, a host hotel (Holiday Inn), swap meet and vendors and Frederick, MD has more attractions than Carlisle. I look forward to the change, even tho its about a 1/2 hour longer drive for me. I know the president and some members of MCC and some members of the ACA personally and am confident they will do a fantastic job at the Camaro Nationals. Don't fret, things will be fine.

That seriously blows. We are planning from 10-20 5th gens from our club to be at Carlisle next June. Now I have to run this past the other members to see what they want to do. I would rather do Carlisle. Any other interest out there?

You will still be able to go to Carlisle and enter...it just will not have extra club backing. The GM Nationals have been shrinking the last few years.

The GM Nationals at Carlisle started as Camaros at Carlisle put on by the ACA. When Carlisle realized just how much the event was drawing, they built the GM Nationals around the Camaro Nationals. Suffice it to say, Carlisle management has become more and more difficult over the years to deal with - hence the ACA taking the Camaro Nationals elsewhere. We had over 700 cars last year and the rest of the GM Nationals was maybe 300 cars.

Since people were already planning to go to the Camaro Nationals the third weekend in June, why would we change the date just because the venue has changed?

To give people the chance to go to both if they want,I know I would.

We are working on that. We have another building set aside for that purpose. As soon as I know particulars, I'll let you know.

The Camaro Nationals has been held the weekend after Father's Day for years. No need to change that since folks are already planning for that date. A lot of folks who travel long distances can't afford to come to two shows. They will have a decision to make, that's all.....

Sorry you feel that way, Jim. You've always had your car judged at the Nationals - and walked away with awards if I remember correctly.....

4Camaros - I certainly don't do the show for just the awards. It's about the total experience and all of the GM cars, vendors, parts, etc... that make up the total event. I understand the reasons were likely justified and financially driven. Unfortunately, you can't argue it won't have a significant impact on the event overall. I'm sure true Camaro fans will follow and the event will continue onward. It's just a shame to break-away from such a legacy location; and I'm betting it came down to dollars and cents! LOL

Actually, dollars and cents had nothing to do with the decision. The decision was made because the management at Carlisle had become impossible to deal with. I won't go into specific matters here, but if you want any more info, shoot me an email or PM.

I understand it was all about the experience in total. I agree both shows may suffer. But at least give us a chance. You've been around both the Nationals and the MD Camaro Club to know both organizations strive to put on a great event.

I'm sure we will have vendors because there were some who wanted to go to the Nationals last year that Carlisle refused to let on the show field with the cars and insisted they had to go to vendor row. They politely declined.

We are working on the particulars of vendors, swap meet area, etc. Just give us a little time to get things lined up. As soon as we do, I'll post up the information.

I didn't mean to imply that awards were the reason you go to shows and if I caused any offense, I apologize. It's nice to be recognized, but I know that's not the reason most of us go to the Nationals.

Thank you. I would like to get the Dale Earnhardt Hall of Fame Camaro that is currently at the Corvette Museum up there for the folks to see.

That's a shame (I think).... been going to the All GM Nationals in Carlisle since 2006. Always had a great time!! I'm sure, it will be the same in Frederick. Only thing that sucks for us is that the Camaro Nationals will be the same weekend as Carlisle and it's been nice to have our vett and camaro in the same show. :(

Carlisle events think they are big enough to dictate any conditions they want and people will still come. I was the treasurer of the ACA the first 5 years that the Camaro Nationals show was put on. I know how Carlisle Events wants everything their way. I think they will suffer the most from the change. I'm backing the MCC on this one, they are a first class club.
