Stripes (good enough?)

So a friend of mine hooked me up with a guy he knows that really knows what he's doing when it comes to window tinting and painting. He said to give him a call whenever I was ready with the material. I wanted to go ahead and try vinyl stripes first(since I'm kinda low on cash right now). So here comes the question: are THESE good enough? I know they're cheap but not sure if they would hold up.....http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2010-...Q5fAccessories

I was actually contemplating the same ebay seller. I like how these particular stripes don't appear to round out as much as the factory sets do near the fascia.

I installed vinyl stripes on my 99', the checkered, anniversary set... its REALLY easy, especially plain solid striping. For the first 4 yrs my car sat outside in Florida, and got hit repeatedly by reclaimed water sprinklers... I did the best I could to keep them clean, but eventually, the mixture of the hot sun and shitty water ended up spotting and fading the vinyl wihin 3 yrs... once the fade took.effect, anything I tried, cleaners, wax etc just soaked into them and made it worse. The damage stopped once I got a garage, but it was already set in.

Now this js a worst case scenerio. Definitely something to concider if your cars going to sit outside, but if its covered at all you should be fine for years. And besides, vinyl is easy and cheap enough to remove and replace if need be anyway!

Good luck!

@Drago77 Yea 3yrs is good for me, I'm just going with vinyl stripes first just to have stripes, and in about a year or so once I have more money I'll just paint some on if the vinyl begins to fade.

@BrandonB956 yea I've seen a lot of vids out there, even that one....Like the guy says: "Installing stripes isn't rocket science but at the same time it isn't easy"....The guy I'm going too has his own shop and even allows us to watch him work, I'll probably ask If I can install one stripe just to get some experience myself...I don't wanna ruin them lol

I actually bought my stripes from that guy. I bought a white set before I got my car and then a flat black set once I got my car. I went with the flat black and had them installed at a local body shop. After about a year they are holding up well. I drive my car year round so they've survived winter as well.

Finally some actual feedback from a Camaro owner of that seller! Yea I'm thinking of flat black as well and I already have an installer in mind. As long as they can hold up for atleast two years I'm good, after that I'll probably have some painted on.

Be careful with the flat black. Bird crap not cleaned off will leave a spot that makes it look like gloss black. I have a bottle of cleaner and a towel in my trunk, but as careful as I have been I still have a few small spots that look glossed. I might suggest the turtle wax ice polish on them also. Thats what I've been using and it seems to "restore" the look every so often.

Thanks for the heads up...I would go gloss but seeing as GM has a lot of flat black accessories like the fuel cover, gill, and grill; I wanna keep everything I plan on adding to the exterior of this car color matched.

I'm thinking about buying mine from him as well, I bought the spears...but they aren't doing it justice for my taste.

Speaking of that....How hard is it to remove? I just installed them today..
